This is an account of almost 60 years' experience in the clinical delineation of genetic disorders, mapping genes on chromosomes, and cataloging human disease-related genes and genetic disorders. The origins of medical genetics as a clinical specialty, of the Human Genome Project, of genomics (including the term), and of HUGO are recounted.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine and metabolic disorder, affecting approximately 11-13% of women of reproductive age. Women with PCOS experience a higher prevalence of infertility, pregnancy complications, and cardiometabolic disorders such as obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Furthermore, psychiatric comorbidities, including depression and anxiety, significantly impact the quality of life in this population.

Methods: In this GWAS meta-analysis, we combined data from the FinnGen, Estonian Biobank and UK Biobank with a total of 12 205 anterior uveitis cases and 917 145 controls. We performed a phenome-wide association study (PheWAS) to investigate associations across phenotypes and traits.

A growing body of evidence (preclinical and clinical studies) implicates a potential role of gut microbiome dysregulation in ASD pathophysiology. The expansion of glutamine residue track (polyQ) within soluble proteins (Q proteins) is responsible for nine autosomal-dominant genetic neurodegenerative disorders. These disorders develop when polyQ expansion exceeds a specific pathogenic threshold (Q) which is unique for each disease. However, the pathogenic mechanisms associated with the variability of Q within the family of Q proteins are poorly understood.
