The summary serum pool of specific tuberculosis IgG, IgA, IgM antibodies to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MBT) antigens was studied in children aged under 7 years who had tuberculosis or latent tuberculous infection. The test system "AT-Tub-Best-strip" (ZAO "Vector-Best", Novosibirsk) was applied. The determination of the total level of antibodies to MBT antigens makes it possible to establish the latent activity of tuberculous infection in children, to form high tuberculosis-risk groups, and to select patients for preventive medicine. It is also of value in diagnosing the minor forms of tuberculosis of intrathoracic lymph nodes in children.

Bacteria as Precision Tools for Cancer Therapy.

Microb Biotechnol

The discovery at the end of the 20th century of genes that induce cell death revolutionised the biocontaintment of genetically manipulated bacteria for environmental or agricultural applications. These bacterial 'killer' genes were then assayed for their potential to target and control malignant cells in human cancers. The identification of the bacteriomes in different human organs and tissues, coupled with the observation that bacteria tend to accumulate near tumours, has opened new avenues for anti-cancer strategies.

Neoadjuvant immunotherapy represents a pioneering approach in the preoperative treatment of cancer, providing new strategies for tumor reduction and improved patient outcomes by modulating the immune response. This study investigated neoadjuvant immunotherapy using intratumoral administration of mannan-BAM, Toll-like receptor ligands, and anti-CD40 antibody (MBTA therapy) followed by surgery in murine models of MTT pheochromocytoma, B16-F10 melanoma, and 4T1 and E0771.lmb mammary carcinomas.

Cancer curing immune responses against heterogeneous solid cancers require that a coordinated immune activation is initiated in the antigen avid but immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). The plastic TME, and the poor systemic tolerability of immune activating drugs are, however, fundamental barriers to generating curative anticancer immune responses. Here, we introduce the CarboCell technology to overcome these barriers by forming an intratumoral sustained drug release depot that provides high payloads of immune stimulatory drugs selectively within the TME.

Capsules are long-chain carbohydrate polymers that envelop the surfaces of many bacteria, protecting them from host immune responses. Capsule biosynthesis enzymes are potential drug targets and valuable biotechnological tools for generating vaccine antigens. Despite their importance, it remains unknown how structurally variable capsule polymers of Gram-negative pathogens are linked to the conserved glycolipid anchoring these virulence factors to the bacterial membrane.

Borderline Brenner tumors (BBT) have a range of morphology that shows considerable overlap with that of malignant Brenner tumors (MBT). In particular, two histological patterns of BBT can be particularly challenging: 1) BBT with intraepithelial carcinoma (BBT-IEC) and 2) BBT with a small nested pattern (BBT-SNP). BBT-IEC is characterized by a tumor with the low-power non-infiltrative silhouette of a conventional BBT, but with increased cytological atypia and mitotic activity similar to that of MBT.
