Article Abstract

Objectives: To determine if nasal septal papilloma is responsive to intralesional cidofovir injections.

Methods: Five adult males, ages 37 to 57, presented with nasal septal or columellar papilloma. Three lesions had been previously excised with the laser and recurred. The lesions were injected with cidofovir on a monthly basis until complete resolution or any residual lesion was excised afterwards with the laser.

Results: All patients achieved disease remission sustained over 10 to 24 months. Overall doses were much lower than those described for laryngeal papillomatosis and no toxic effects were observed.

Conclusions: Office-based intralesional injections of cidofovir may show benefit in the treatment of nasal septal papilloma.

Ebm Rating: C-4.

Background: The septum is often underdeveloped in East Asian populations, and traditional endogenous extension stents may not adequately fulfill the requirements for rhinoplasty. Herein, we present an innovative exogenous extension framework featuring a mortise and tenon structure specifically designed for East Asians.

Methods: This framework comprises a mushroom-shaped rib cartilage component and a lancet-shaped expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) element, which are interconnected through a mortise and tenon design.

Successful rhinoplasty relies on a deep understanding of nasal anatomy and precise nasal tip control for lasting functional and aesthetic outcomes. Structural grafts, like septal extension grafts, are instrumental in maintaining tip position and projection with minimal long-term changes. This article details a systematic technique to harvest septal cartilage that maximizes graft material and allows for effective septal deviation correction.

Nasal adhesions, or synechiae, commonly occur following surgical procedures, resulting in nasal airway obstruction and patient discomfort. While various packing materials are available to prevent adhesion formation post-surgery, there is limited guidance on effectively dividing existing adhesions and determining the optimal packing materials to maintain separation afterward. We treated a 59-year-old man with severe adhesions in the anterior nasal cavity.
