Background: Targeting modifiable factors offers significant potential for primary cancer prevention. For public health strategies, it is essential to quantify the contribution from each factor on a national level. Meat and meat products are vital sources of essential nutrients for human health and development. However, an excessive or inappropriate consumption can pose significant health risks. In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified red meat as "probably carcinogenic to humans" and processed meat as "carcinogenic to humans", yet the role of environmental contaminants in these products was not addressed.

Objective: Although an association exists between dietary habits and head and neck cancer (HNC), the direct cause-and-effect connection remains elusive. Our objective was to investigate the causal associations between dietary factors and the likelihood of developing HNC.
Methods: Genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics for dietary habits were screened from the UK Biobank, the OncoArray Oral Cavity and Oropharyngeal Cancer consortium, and the FinnGen biobank for HNC.
