The reaction of enynals 1, including o-(alkynyl)benzaldehydes, and carbonyl compounds 2, such as aldehydes and ketones, in the presence of a catalytic amount of AuBr3 in 1,4-dioxane at 100 degrees C gave the functionalized aromatic compounds 3 in high yields. Similarly, the AuBr3-catalyzed reactions of 1 with acetal compounds 5 afforded the corresponding aromatic compounds 3 in good yields. On the other hand, when the reaction was carried out in the presence of a catalytic amount of Cu(NTf2)2 and 1 equiv of H2O in (CH2Cl)2 at 100 degrees C, the decarbonylated naphthalene products 4 were obtained selectively over 3. Benzofused heteroaromatic compounds, such as indole derivatives 13 and benzofuran derivatives 15, were also synthesized by using the present benzannulation methodology.

Pyrimidines are aromatic, heterocyclic organic compounds characterized by a six-membered ring that contains four carbon atoms and two nitrogen atoms. They have been reported to exhibit a variety of biological activities such as antifungal, antiviral, and anti-Parkinsonian effects. Recently, there has been an increased focus on their potential anti-Alzheimer's properties.

The microbiota of cork and yellow stain as a model for a new route for the synthesis of chlorophenols and chloroanisoles from the microbial degradation of suberin and/or lignin.

Microbiome

January 2025

Instituto de Investigación de La Viña y El Vino, Escuela de Ingeniería Agraria, Universidad de León, Avenida de Portugal, 41, León, 24009, Spain.

Article Synopsis
  • Cork is primarily used for wine bottle stoppers, but it can contain 2,4,6-trichloroanisole, which causes a musty odor that negatively affects wine quality and leads to financial losses.
  • The presence of yellow stain in cork indicates a degradation linked to higher microbial populations, particularly filamentous fungi that break down lignin, and this microbiota contributes to the formation of chlorophenols and chloroanisoles.
  • Research identified specific fungal and bacterial species associated with yellow stain and demonstrated that certain strains can convert p-hydroxybenzoate into phenol, which can then be chlorinated, potentially leading to the development of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol.

A pilot study on the effects of olfactory stimulation with white musk aromatic oil on psychophysiological activity: a crossover study.

Studies on the compounds of aromatic oils and their effects on psychophysiological changes in humans are often conducted separately. To obtain better validation, a suitable protocol is needed that can be extrapolated to large-scale olfactory stimulation experiments. Unfortunately, this type of study is still rarely performed.

Pollution characteristics and potential sources of Peroxyacetyl Nitrate in a petrochemical industrialized City, Northwest China.

Key Laboratory for Environmental Pollution Prediction and Control, College of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, Gansu Province, 730000, China; Laboratory for Earth Surface Processes, College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, Peking University, Beijing, 100871, China.

Peroxyacetyl Nitrate (CHC(O)ONO, PAN), a typical secondary product of photochemical reactions, is well known to be a better photochemical indicator due to the only secondary photochemical source in the troposphere. Studies on PAN pollution are sparse in northwest China, resulting in a limited understanding of photochemical pollution in recent years. Herein, the measurement of PAN, O, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), NO, other related species, and meteorological parameters were conducted from May 1 to August 31, 2022, at an urban site in Lanzhou.
