The literature with respect to whether or not psychiatric disorders represent a contraindication to dental implant treatment is sparse and contradictory. This paper describes three cases in which patients with psychiatric disorders were provided with dental implant retained prostheses. It is concluded that mental health disorders are not necessarily a contraindication to dental implant treatment and dental implant treatment can provide valuable psychological support. If any doubt exists about the effect of a psychiatric disorder on the prognosis of implant treatment the opinion of a psychiatrist should be obtained. The development of liaison psychiatry for dental hospitals should be seen as an ideal.

Background & Objective: Currently, there are many implants in clinical use, making it hard to choose the right one for the patient. The success rate of an implant depends on its diameter, length, and direction of insertion in bone. In implant dentistry, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulates intraoral conditions in vitro and analyzes the effects of implant material, diameter, size, and other components related to oral structure on the implant and peri-implant tissues.

Awareness of Peri-Implantitis Among General Dental Practitioners in Southern Saudi Arabia: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Cureus

January 2025

Department of Preventive Dental Sciences, College of Dentistry, Najran University, Najran, SAU.

Aim And Background: The success of dental implants is contingent upon various biological conditions, and any lapse in meeting these criteria can lead to complications such as peri-implantitis or implant failure. The objective of this research is to evaluate the level of understanding regarding peri-implant among general dentists practicing in Saudi Arabia.

Materials And Methods: A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing an online questionnaire distributed to general dental practitioners (GDPs) in Saudi Arabia.

The posterior mandible is the primary area for occlusal function. However, long-term tooth loss in the posterior mandible often leads to rapid absorption of both buccal and lingual trabecular bone plates and subsequent atrophy of the alveolar ridge. This ultimately results in horizontal bone deficiencies that complicate achieving an optimal three-dimensional placement for dental implants.

Efficacy of SAVE: A Novel Maxillary Protraction Device-A Finite Element Analysis.

Int J Clin Pediatr Dent

December 2024

Department of Orthodontics, Yenepoya Dental College, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, Karnataka, India.

Introduction: This study describes a novel device known as "SAVE" to effectively protract the deficient maxilla in class III malocclusion by quantifying and evaluating the changes in the maxilla through a finite element analysis (FEA).

Materials And Methods: The patented novel SAVE device was three-dimensionally modeled using Autodesk Fusion 360. An existing computed tomography (CT) scan of a patient exhibiting class III malocclusion was used to generate a finite element (FE) model.
