The effect of a Snoezelen room on the disruptive and prosocial behavior of three male, autistic inpatients was examined. In an ABAB reversal design, specific disruptive and prosocial behaviors were recorded for each client throughout the four 28-day periods of the study. Results indicated that the three clients had different responses to the room, but no client showed a decrease in disruptive behaviors while in the Snoezelen condition compared to baseline, and one client showed a clear pattern of increased disruptive behavior during the Snoezelen periods. There was a slight tendency for clients to engage in more prosocial behaviors while in Snoezelen. These findings do not support the contention that Snoezelen rooms are effective interventions for aggressive behavior in this client population.

Background: Increasing life expectancy has led to a rise in nursing home admissions, a context in which older adults often experience chronic physical and mental health conditions, chronic pain, and reduced well-being. Reducing the use of restrictive interventions within psychiatric inpatient settings is a global priority. There are many strategies which may support the prevention of violence before escalation into more severe incidences. Sensory rooms have been identified as one such intervention, aiding patients to emotionally regulate and reduce distress, with a growing body of academic literature interested in whether sensory rooms can ultimately impact incidences of patient violence and the use of restraint, seclusion, and other restrictive practices.

Alexithymia is a "transdiagnostic" dimensional construct consisting in difficulty in recognizing one's own emotional states and/or sharing them to others. In this case report we illustrate our experience of administration of Snoezelen Multisensory Room (SMR) treatment to a patient, one of our psychiatric inpatient's younger sister who had high levels of alexithymia. SMR treatment consists of visual, auditory, and olfactory controlled stimulations in a specific environment whose application in the psychiatric field is promising.

Background & Aims: Multi-Sensory Environments (MSEs) are common in special-needs schools and are widely used with autistic pupils. In this exploratory sequential mixed-methods study, we explored the beliefs and experiences of practitioners who regularly use MSEs with autistic pupils.
Methods: Qualitative interviews with ten practitioners (9 female, aged 24-62 years) identified six themes reflecting beliefs about MSE use with autistic children.
