AI Article Synopsis

  • Colorimetric carbon dioxide detectors are effective tools for confirming the correct placement of endotracheal tubes.
  • The detectors also aid in assessing airway patency during bag and mask ventilation.
  • The report shares insights from a study that evaluated the use of these devices for preintubation airway stabilization through videotaped performances in a randomized trial.

Article Abstract

Colorimetric carbon dioxide detectors are useful indicators of proper endotracheal tube placement. We have found that they also are helpful during bag and mask ventilation as an indicator of a patent airway. In this report, we describe our experience with these devices for use during preintubation airway stabilization as observed during videotaped performances from a prospective, randomized trial of intubation premedication.

Dyeing of synthetic fiber-based wool blended fabrics in supercritical carbon dioxide.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Dyeing, Printing and Textile Auxiliaries Department, Textile Research and Technology Institute, National Research Centre, 33 EL Buhouth St., Dokki, 12622, Giza, Egypt.

Development of supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO) dyeing technology for natural fabrics and their blended fabrics is essential for the textile industry due to environmental and economic considerations. Wool (W), polyester (PET) and nylon (N) fabrics and their wool/polyester (W/PET) and wool/nylon (W/N) blended fabrics were dyed in SC-CO medium with a synthesized reactive disperse dye containing a vinylsulphone (VS) reactive group, which behaves as a disperse dye for synthetic fibers and a reactive dye for protein fibers. The SC-CO dyeing performance of all fabrics was investigated in terms of color strength, fixation, colorimetric and fastness measurements and compared with the conventional aqueous dyeing method.

A pasting-3D microfluidic paper-based analytical device (P-3D μPAD) was developed. It enabled an efficient cascade reaction between urate oxidase (UOX) and Fe/Pt-doped carbon nanoparticles (Fe/Pt-CNPs) for visual colorimetric detection of uric acid (UA). The novel Fe/Pt-CNP nanozyme performed high peroxidase-like activity toward 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and HO with Michaelis - Menten constants (K) of 0.

Determination of glucose and maltose is crucial for food production and human health. Herein, a novel Au/CD@MIL-53(Fe)-NH self-cascade nanozyme was constructed via host-guest assembly with "three-in-one" features, including blue fluorescence, HO production as an oxidase mimic, and •OH generation as a peroxidase mimic. Theoretical and experimental results proved that the incorporation of carbon dots renders the composite with high peroxidase-like activity and extremely high affinity for HO (K: 0.

Interfacial charge-carrier complexation is a bottleneck problem governing the gating effect of organic photoelectrochemical transistor (OPECT) biosensors. Therefore, it has long been desired to enhance the OPECT gating effect and realize the maximum transconductance at zero bias. In this study, an in situ engineered heterojunction gating and nano-enzymatic catalytic integration of OPECT-colorimetric dual-mode sensing platform is developed for dibutyl phthalate detection.

Intrinsically colored cotton is crucial for sustainability as it eliminates the need for chemical dyes, reducing water pollution and carbon footprint. It also preserves biodiversity by using fewer pesticides and supports eco-friendly, ethical product creation. This research aims to examine the factors that influence the color change that occurs in naturally colored organic cotton (NaCOC) fabrics when washed under normal household conditions, and it focuses on special detergents designed for people with skin hypersensitivity.
