Axon regenerative capacity diminishes with aging and differences in the condition of peripheral nerves between young and elderly individuals have been reported. However, the underlying pathology remains unclear. The expression of repressor element‑1 silencing transcription factor (REST) increases with age and is reported to suppress axon regeneration.

Tissue damage leads to expression in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) sensory neurons of genes associated with axonal injury and regeneration, most notably activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) and GAP-43. ATF3 expression is associated with sensitization of cellular physiology and enhanced amplitude/duration of a nociceptive reflex.

Nanoplastic (NP) pollution poses serious health hazards to aquatic ecosystems, impacting various physiological systems of aquatic organisms. This review examines the complex interplay between NPs and different physiological systems. In the digestive system, NPs downregulate the hsp70-like gene in Mytilus galloprovincialis, leading to decreased metabolic processes and impaired digestion.

Brachial plexus root avulsion (BPRA) is often caused by road collisions, leading to total loss of motor function in the upper limb. At present, effective treatment options remain limited. Edaravone (EDA), a substance that eliminates free radicals, exhibits numerous biological properties, including neuroprotective, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

The integrity of corneal nerves is critical for ocular surface health, and damages can lead to Neurotrophic Keratopathy (NK). Despite the regenerative abilities of the peripheral nerve system (PNS), corneal nerve regeneration is often incomplete, and the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. This study aims to identify potential factors that can enhance corneal nerve regeneration for NK treatment, with a focus on Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA).
