We describe a novel missense mutation (Aspartic acid to Asparagine, p.D419N (g.1371G>A, c.1255G>A) within exon 9 of SH3BP2 in a patient with cherubism, an autosomal dominant syndrome characterized by excessive osteoclastic bone resorption of the jaw. Two siblings and the father were carriers but lacked phenotypic features. Transient expression of p.D419N (c.1255G>A), as well as three previously described exon 9 mutations from cherubism patients (p.R415Q (c.1244G>A), p.D420E (c.1259G>A), and p.P418R (c.1253C>G)) increased activity of NFAT (nuclear factor of activated T-cells), an osteoclastogenic mediator, indicating that cherubism results from gain of function mutations in SH3BP2.

Background: Drug resistance constitutes one of the principal causes of poor prognosis in breast cancer patients. Although cancer cells can maintain viability independently of mitochondrial energy metabolism, they remain reliant on mitochondrial functions for the synthesis of new DNA strands. This dependency underscores a potential link between mitochondrial energy metabolism and drug resistance.

Objective: This study aims to identify potential lipid biomarkers and metabolic pathways associated with oral cancer (OC). Then to establish and evaluate disease classification models capable of distinguishing OC patients from healthy controls.
Methods: A total of 41 OC patients and 41 controls were recruited from a hospital in Southeast China to examine the serum lipidomics by Ultra-high Performance Liquid Chromatography Q Exactive Mass Spectrometry (UHPLC-QE-MS).

Multiple myeloma (MM) remains an incurable hematological malignancy that necessitates the identification of novel therapeutic strategies. Here, we report that intracellular levels of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) control the cytotoxicity of MM chemotherapeutic agents. Inhibition of VLCFA biosynthesis reduced cell death in MM cells caused by the proteasome inhibitor, bortezomib.

Transpiration-driven electrokinetic power generators (TEPGs) hold promising potential for intelligent chemical sensing applications, enabling the efficient identification and screening of organic solvents. Here, we report a novel TEPG-based chemical sensor using MoS-doped cellulose filter paper for efficient detection of poplar solvents like water, alcohols, and methanol. TEPGs operate by leveraging capillary-driven transpiration to induce solvent flow through porous materials, leading to ion migration and the formation of electrical double layers (EDLs) at the solid-liquid interfaces.

Background: Mental health issues among patients with physical diseases are increasingly common. This study investigated the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and adverse doctor-patient relationship risks (ADRR) among patients with physical diseases, and the central and bridge symptoms of this network structure.
Methods: A total of 14,344 patients with physical diseases enrolled in this survey.
