History And Admission Findings: Three drug addicts presented as emergencies with severe pain in one hand. 1 to 3 hours previously they had accidentally injected dissolved flunitrazepam tablets intra-arterially. The affected hands were pale and cold. Two of the patients had injected into the brachial artery, one into the radial artery.
Diagnostics: The brachial and radial arteries were palpable in all three patients, but immediate angiography showed complete occlusion of all arteries to the hand and fingers.
Treatment And Course: Initial local treatment with intra-arterial infusion of prostanoids (PGE(1)) did not improve hand perfusion. Subsequently, a combination of PGE(1) and local fibrinolytic therapy with rt-PA was given intra-arterially over 12 to 22 hours. In two of the patients complete reperfusion was achieved, but one, in whom the delay between injection and treatment had been the longest, lost the distal phalanges of digits 1, 2 and 3. No bleeding complications were observed.
Conclusion: Peripheral ischemia as a result of an accidental intra-arterial injection of dissolved tablets in drug addicts is an emergency which requires immediate action. The combined administration of prostanoids and rt-PA-lysis is a promising therapeutic option that should be employed in such patients.

In general, ghrelin is known as one of the orexigenic hormones in mammals. On the other hand, it has been shown that ghrelin inhibits water intake, which appear to be inconsistent with its role in the feeding response. In this study, the effect of ghrelin on water intake was comprehensively addressed using conscious seawater-acclimated eels known as an experimental model for water drinking behaviour.

The aim of this study was to assess the utility of weighted amide proton transfer (APT) MRI in three different rodent models of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). APT MRI was evaluated in models of diethylnitrosamine (DEN) induced HCC, N1S1 syngeneic orthotopic xenograft and human HepG2 ectopic xenograft. All models of HCC showed a higher APT signal over the surrounding normal tissues.

Hyaluronic acid fillers rarely cause potentially devastating occlusive adverse events that require immediate hyaluronidase salvage infiltrations. An exploratory photographic investigation probed whether topical heparin's anticlotting and anti-inflammatory properties could synergize with and enhance the effectiveness of hyaluronidase. Purpose: Diffusion-weighted arterial spin labeling (DW-ASL) MRI has been proposed to determine the rate of water exchange (K) across the blood brain barrier (BBB). This study aims to further evaluate K MRI by comparing it with standard dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI and histology in association with mannitol-induced disruption of the BBB.
Methods: DW-ASL was measured using a multiple b-value MRI protocol in normal rats at three post-labeling delays (N = 19), before and after intra-carotid injection of mannitol to disrupt BBB in one hemisphere (N = 13).
