Contemporary collections frequently contain man-made materials. Although synthetic materials are considered more resistant to chemical, physical and biological damage than natural materials, they can also undergo rapid deterioration. In this Opinion article, we claim that biotechnology can help to identify biodeteriogens and prevent colonisation of polymeric surfaces through the application of biological products that reduce cell adhesion. We report the study of 'Futuro', made in 1965 by the Finnish architect Matti Suuronne. This ski-cabin, constructed of glassfibre-reinforced polyester, polyester-polyurethane, and poly(methylmethacrylate), was significantly degraded by conspicuous growth of microorganisms, identified as Cyanobacteria and Archaea using fluorescent in situ hybridisation. Ultimately, if biodeteriogens are able to adhere to the polymer surfaces, molecules with enzymatic activity can help to prevent the formation of biofilms--a main cause of deterioration--and aid the work of the conservator.

Methods: A cross-sectional, online survey was used to collect the respondents' sociodemographic, clinical, and COPI-Adult (CRO) data (n = 509). A Pearson correlation coefficient test was used to assess the correlations between sociodemographic, clinical, and COPI-Adult (CRO) data.

Crop domestication arises from a coevolutionary process between plants and humans, resulting in predictable and improved resources for humans. Of the thousands of edible species, many were collected or cultivated for food, but only a few became domesticated and even fewer supply the bulk of the plant-based calories consumed by humans. Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas (SDAVFs) are the most common type of spinal vascular malformations. Multiple SDAVFs are unusual and can occur either synchronously or metachronously, as reported in the literature. We report on the unusual case of a woman with three separate SDAVFs, which were surgically treated within the same setting; the postoperative course was characterised by unexplained repeated haematoma formation within the surgical sites.

Background: Preventive interventions are needed to provide targeted health support to adolescents to improve health behaviors. Engaging adolescents in preventive interventions remains a challenge, highlighting the need for innovative recruitment strategies.
