A number of micropumps have been proposed in the last few years based on different actuating principles and fabricated by different technologies. However, many of those micropumps have been designed taking into account primarily available microfabrication technologies rather than appropriate pump performance analysis. In fact, not all papers are available in the literature presenting theoretical models usable to describe the functioning and predict the performance of those micropumps. In this paper, we present a new micropump model and FEA method suitable for guiding the design and predicting the performance of a micropump actuated by a piezoelectric actuator. The model takes into account the influence of piezoelectric transducer and pump geometry. Simulations have been performed and compared with results of experiments on a prototype micropump fabricated in our laboratory.

The present study explores the conformational dynamics of the membrane protein of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) within the Endoplasmic Reticulum-Golgi Intermediate Compartment (ERGIC) complex using an all-atomistic molecular dynamics simulation approach. Significant structural changes were observed in the N-terminal, C-terminal, transmembrane, and beta-sheet sandwich domains of the MERS-CoV membrane protein. This study also highlights the structural similarities between the MERS-CoV and the SARS-CoV-2 membrane proteins, particularly in how both exhibit a distinct kink in the transmembrane helix caused by aromatic residue-lipid interactions.

Climate change significantly impacts the risk of eutrophication and, consequently, chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentrations. Understanding the impact of water flows is a crucial first step in developing insights into future patterns of change and associated risks. In this study, the Statistical DownScaling Model (SDSM)-a widely used daily downscaling method-is implemented to produce downscaled local climate variables, which serve as input for simulating future hydro-climate conditions using a hydrological model.

The application of high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) for ore crushing is considered to be one of the effective ways to save energy and reduce emissions in the ore processing industry. The crushing effect is directly determined by the forces of ore material during roll crushing. However, the mechanical state of ore material in roll crushing and the effect of roll structure, process parameters, feed particle size, on the force during the crushing of ore material needs to be expanded.

Department of Geotechnical Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, Tongji University, Shanghai, 200000, China.

This study investigates the vulnerability of expansive soil slopes to destabilization and damage, particularly under intense rainfall, due to their heightened sensitivity to moisture. Focusing on a project in Yunnan Province, numerical simulation software is employed to address slope stability challenges. Meanwhile, the soil mechanical parameters of this study were acquired through experimentation.

In modern knee arthroplasty, surgeons increasingly aim for individualised implant selection based on data-driven decisions to improve patient satisfaction rates. The identification of an implant design that optimally fits to a patient's native kinematic patterns and functional requirements could provide a basis towards subject-specific phenotyping. The goal of this study was to achieve a first step towards identifying easily accessible and intuitive features that allow for discrimination between implant designs based on kinematic data.
