[Renal fusion in embryonic period].

An R Acad Nac Med (Madr)

Published: October 2006

In the present communication we present eight human embryos, understood between the 16 and 30 mm., carrier of renal half fusion -kidney in horseshoe-. We carry out a descriptive study based on fifty embryos of these stadiums (Collection Jiménez Collado), in order to establish the different normodifferenciative stadiums, as well as the possible schedule in which the malformation settles down, for finally to suggest possible mechanism-hypothesis that explain the presence of the renal half fusion.

Metabolically stable apelin analogs: development and functional role in water balance and cardiovascular function.

Apelin, a (neuro) vasoactive peptide, plays a prominent role in controlling water balance and cardiovascular functions. Apelin and its receptor co-localize with vasopressin in magnocellular vasopressinergic neurons. Apelin receptors (Apelin-Rs) are also expressed in the collecting ducts of the kidney, where vasopressin type 2 receptors are also present.

Objectives: To assess tuberculosis (TB) and associated factors among patients with presumptive TB with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted from January to December 2023 among 381 patients with CKD attending six hospitals found in five regions of Ethiopia. Sputum and urine specimens were collected and examined for TB using smear microscopy, culture, and Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra assay.

Cota is a lipidated dual GLP-1 and Glucagon receptor agonist that was investigated for the treatment of various metabolic diseases, it is designed for once daily subcutaneous administration. Invasive daily injections often result in poor patient compliance with chronic disease, and here, we demonstrate an innovative strategy of encapsulating reversible cota self-assembled fibers within an in-situ forming depot of low molecular weight poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (LWPLGA) for sustained delivery GLP-1 and Glucagon receptor agonist with controlled burst release. This could be a suitable alternative to other sustained delivery strategies for fibrillating peptides.

Sex differences in aristolochic acid I-induced nephrotoxicity in mice and the effect of estradiol.

School of Pharmacy, Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, Sichuan 646000, China; Luzhou New Drug Evaluation and Research Center, Luzhou, Sichuan 646000, China. Electronic address:

Aristolochic acid I (AAI), the most prominent component of aristolochic acids and found in nearly all aristolochic herbs, has been demonstrated significant nephrotoxicity. In this study, an acute nephrotoxicity model of AAI mice was established by a single dose injection of AAI. It was observed that there are differences of the sensitivity to AAI nephrotoxicity in female and male mice, with male mice exhibiting nephrotoxic effects even at lower doses.

Background: Severe alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH) is rising in incidence with a high mortality burden. While corticosteroids are recommended for eligible patients with severe AH, no guidance exists for the timing of steroid initiation, tapering regimens, and surveillance of adverse events.

Objective: We aim to systematically review these variables and provide evidence-based recommendations for the inpatient and outpatient management of severe AH.
