Two isomers of nitrochlorobenzene (o-, and p-NCB) were treated by a Pd/Fe catalyst in aqueous solutions through catalytic amination and dechlorination. Nitrochlorobenzenes are rapidly converted to form chloroanilines (CAN) first through an amination process, and then rapidly dechlorinated to become aniline (AN) and Cl(-), without the involvement of any other intermediate reaction products. The amination and dechlorination reaction are believed to take place predominantly on the surface site of the Pd/Fe catalysts. The dechlorination rate of the reductive degradation of the two isomers of nitrochlorobenzene (o-, and p-NCB) in the presence of Pd/Fe as a catalyst was measured experimentally. In all cases, the reaction rate constants were found to increase with the decrease in the Gibbs free energy (correlation with the activation energy) of NCBs formation; the activation energy of each dechlorination reaction was measured to be 95.83 and 77.05 kJ/mol, respectively for o- and p-NCB. The results demonstrated that p-NCBs were reduced more easily than o-NCBs.

Porous organic cages (POCs) are a new type of molecular material. The well-defined cavities, abundant host-guest recognition ability, and good solubility of POCs render them attractive for use in various fields such as molecular recognition, gas adsorption, molecular containers, sensing, catalysis, chromatographic separation. In this study, a chiral POC (CPOC) was synthesized via the Schiff base condensation of 4,4',4″,4″'-(ethene-1,1,2,2-tetrayl)tetrabenzaldehyde with (,)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine.

Polyimine macrocycles are a new class of organic macrocycles with cyclic structures, well-defined molecular cavities, and multiple cooperative binding sites, which have recently aroused considerable research interest in molecular recognition and separation. Herein, we report the bonding of a [3+3] chiral polyimine macrocycle (HL, CHNO) on thiol-functionalized silica gel using thiol-ene click chemistry to prepare a chiral stationary phase (CSP) for high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The fabricated column exhibited excellent chiral separation capability under both normal-phase and reversed-phase conditions.

Although pesticide intermediates are a kind of typical toxic pollutant in contaminated sites, the remediation of these contaminants in groundwater and soils is of limited concern. In the present study we investigated the performance of a novel heterogeneous oxidation system, biochar supported nanoscaled-zero valent iron (nZVI/BC) activated persulfate (PS), in the oxidative degradation of nitrochlorobenzene (NCB), a typical pesticide intermediate. Peanut shell based nZVI/BC was prepared and used as the PS activator.

Metal-organic framework Ni(BDC)(DABCO) (Ni-MOF)/porous graphene aerogel (PGA) composites were fabricated for the first time. The introduction of PGA enhances conductivity of Ni-MOF, prevents Ni-MOF from accumulating, reduces the size of Ni-MOF, and increases the pore size of composites, which improve the electrocatalytic activity of Ni-MOF@PGA-2. The prepared sensors based on Ni-MOF@PGA-2 composite show the highest catalytic current towards electroreduction of 2-nitrochlorobenzene (2-NCB), 3-nitrochlorobenzene (3-NCB), and 4-nitrochlorobenzene (4-NCB) at around - 0.

A hydroxyl-functionalized homochiral porous organic cage (POC) was synthesized and characterized by FTIR, NMR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), MALDI-TOF-MS, and elemental analysis. The synthesized homochiral POC was used as stationary phase to prepare a capillary gas chromatography (GC) column by a static coating method. The fabricated column shows excellent selectivity not only for the separation of positional isomers but also for the resolution of various racemates.
