Objective: To find a new method for edge detection and modeling in frontal facial contour image.

Methods: Searching circle-based edge detection algorithm was developed on the basis of Sobel edge detector. Apriori knowledge of the facial contour and searching limitations as the minimum curvature radius, concave-convex property, and maximum edge disconnected distance were used to detect the edge of frontal facial contour. The frontal facial contour model was established with least squares curve fitting methods, and the relationship between the model rank and model precision was analyzed.

Results: The edge detected by the new method was consistent with the actual edge of the facial contour and the irrelevant edge was well eliminated. Variation of the 2,4,10 time models from the actual image were compared, which identified the 10 time model as the best one.

Conclusion: The effectiveness and practicability of this new method for edge detection and modeling has been tested, which provides a theoretic basis for designing facial contouring image system.

Background: Among several skin fillers developed in recent decades, hyaluronic acid (HA) is a widely used filler for face contouring and is generally believed to be safe, long-lasting, not immunogenic, and cost-effective. However, early and delayed complications can also occur following HA filler injection. Unfortunately, there have been reports of HA-related bone erosion in the chin area without clear scientific data regarding its existence and incidence.

Combined Use of HArmonyCa and Hyaluronic Acid Fillers: A Holistic Approach to Facial Rejuvenation.

Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open

December 2024

Department of Dermatology, School of Medicine, Halic University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Background: The multifactorial nature of aging necessitates a comprehensive assessment addressing contour, volume, and facial laxity, and a holistic treatment plan. We evaluated combined use of HArmonyCa with HA fillers to improve laxity and overall aesthetic outcomes. A detailed guide is also presented regarding facial shapes, special areas, and volume needs.

Background: Facial contouring procedures are increasingly sought to address aesthetic concerns such as submental fat accumulation and lack of jawline definition. Cryolipolysis and hyaluronic acid (HA) injection have emerged as promising modalities for lower face contouring, targeting fat reduction and jawline enhancement, respectively.

Objective: This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of a combined treatment approach involving cryolipolysis followed by HA injection for addressing lower face contour concerns.

Deep Tissue Sculpture in Neck Rejuvenation: Review of 641 Consecutive Cases.

Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open

December 2024

From the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department, Tanta University, Tanta, Egypt.

Background: Enhancing neck contour is a primary goal for individuals seeking facial and neck rejuvenation. However, the literature on deep neck sculpture and its potential complications is scarce.

Methods: The records of 641 patients with deep plane neck lift and deep tissue sculpture were reviewed retrospectively between 2014 and 2023.

Purpose: We investigate the extent to which automated audiovisual metrics extracted during an affect production task show statistically significant differences between a cohort of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and typically developing controls.

Method: Forty children with ASD and 21 neurotypical controls interacted with a multimodal conversational platform with a virtual agent, Tina, who guided them through tasks prompting facial and vocal communication of four emotions-happy, angry, sad, and afraid-under conditions of high and low verbal and social cognitive task demands.

Results: Individuals with ASD exhibited greater standard deviation of the fundamental frequency of the voice with the minima and maxima of the pitch contour occurring at an earlier time point as compared to controls.
