Background: HIV infection has been associated with an increased risk of cancer development and Kaposi's sarcoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and invasive cervical cancers have been a manifestation of AIDS. With the advent of antiretroviral therapy, a collateral appearance of non-AIDS defining cancers (NADC) has been observed in HIV positive patients.
Methods: From January 1997 to December 2022, we performed an observational cross-sectional study, involving HIV-infected outpatients with both AIDS-defining cancers (ADC) and NADC, followed up in a tertiary hospital in Italy.

Accumulating evidence suggests that inherited melanoma is not rare and approx. one in seven individuals with melanoma has clinically relevant hereditable cancer-predisposing and/or -susceptibility variant(s). Concerning its germline genetic background, genetic screening aims to identify either variants of predisposing genes with high penetrance or variants of susceptibility genes with medium or low penetrance.

Background: Most research on HIV-1 viremia and cancer risk is from high-income countries. We evaluated the association between HIV-1 viremia and the risk of various cancer types among people with HIV (PWH) in South Africa.
Methods: We analysed data from the South African HIV Cancer Match study, based on laboratory measurements from the National Health Laboratory Services and cancer records from the National Cancer Registry from 2004-2014.

Kaposi sarcoma is a low-grade vascular neoplasm linked to the human herpesvirus 8, with the AIDS-associated epidemic variant being the most common and aggressive. Although Kaposi sarcoma more commonly affects the cutaneous tissues, lymph nodes, and visceral organs, it can also be present in ocular and ocular adnexal tissues. We report a case of a 58-year-old Indo-Caribbean woman living with AIDS who presented with a large upper eyelid mass that was clinically diagnosed as Kaposi sarcoma.

Objective: Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) infection, essential for Kaposi sarcoma development especially in people with HIV (PWH), has been proposed to be transmitted through saliva. The potential role of salivary microbiota played in the infection of KSHV is largely obscure. This study aimed to explore the association between salivary microbiota and KSHV infection among PWH.
