Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between bone mineral density (BMD) and both CAG repeat polymorphism of the androgen receptor (AR) gene and skewed X chromosome inactivation (SI) in postmenopausal women.

Methods: BMD was measured by DEXA. Both the number and the X-weighted biallelic mean of the CAG repeats of AR were analysed by PCR, before and after DNA digestion with methylation-sensitive HpaII in 192 healthy Caucasian postmenopausal women.

Results: The number of CAG repeats ranged from 10 to 34, with a median value of 22. CAG)(n< or =22) and CAG)(n> or =23) alleles were designated as short and long alleles, respectively. In women using hormone replacement therapy (HRT) (n=81), lumbar spine BMD was significantly lower, and femoral neck and total body BMD marginally lower in those with long-long alleles when compared with those with other genotypes. SI (> or =80%) was observed in 24% of the women and was not associated with BMD. In women using HRT, femoral neck BMD was significantly lower, and lumbar spine and total body BMD marginally lower in those whose X-weighted CAG repeat biallelic was greater than 22.59 (median value) when compared to other genotypes. These results were not found in women not using HRT.

Conclusion: In conclusion, our results suggest that BMD may be associated with AR gene polymorphism in postmenopausal women using HRT but not with SI. Further studies are needed to investigate the mechanisms of the interaction between HRT, BMD and AR found in the present study.

Association of caffeine intake and sleep duration with bone mineral density: a cross-sectional study from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2011 and 2018.

BMC Musculoskelet Disord

Department of Orthopedics, Wuhan Fourth Hospital, Wuhan fourth hospital, No. 473, Hanzheng Street, Qiaokou District, Wuhan, China.

Objective: The association between sleep duration, caffeine intake, and bone mineral density (BMD) is not well understood, with previous studies providing controversial results. This study explores the associations among caffeine intake, sleep duration, and BMD.

Methods: Data were sourced from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2011 to 2018, including 13,457 participants who self-reported sleep duration and caffeine intake, with BMD measured via dual X-ray absorptiometry.

Although the toxic effect of Sedentary behavior (SED) on bone health has been demonstrated in the previous study, the underlying mechanisms of SED, or break SED to bone health remain unclear. In this study, we aim to investigate the effects of sedentary behavior (SED) on bone health, as well as the potential favor effects of moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and periodic interruptions of SED. To simulate SED, we used small Plexiglas cages (20.

Background: Colistin, a last-resort antibiotic for treating multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections, has increased resistance as a result of the emergence of the gene. The 1gene, which confers colistin resistance, is often carried on plasmids, facilitating its spread by horizontal gene transfer among bacterial populations. The rising prevalence of 1mediated resistance poses significant challenges for infection control and treatment efficacy.

seeds are known for their high oil content, and the oil extracted from these seeds has been traditionally utilized in biodiesel production. The presence of toxic compounds, specifically phorbol esters (PEs), in seed oil (JCSO) has blocked its use for human consumption. This article presents a thorough literature review that summarizes the latest research on the toxicological effects, including acute toxicity, genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, and chronic toxicity associated with phorbol esters (JCPEs).

Introduction: Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) is a widely used industrial polymerization material. Current occupational exposure limits (OELs) for GMA in China show significant disparities compared to those established by international regulatory bodies, including the United States, the European Union, and Japan. A comprehensive revision of GMA exposure limits is crucial for ensuring optimal worker protection.
