The review considers the history of selection of minipigs convenient for maintenance in scientific laboratories. It is shown that minipigs are suitable for studies of wide range of problems and there are perspectives of their use for xenotransplantation. Problems of bioethics in connection with the appearance of new biomedical technologies are discussed.

Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are an object of intense investigation due to their therapeutic potential. MSCs have been well studied in vitro, while their fate after implantation in vivo has been poorly analyzed. We studied the properties of MSCs from the bone marrow (BM-MSC) before and after implantation under the renal capsule using a mini pig model.

Real haptics is a technology that reproduces the sense of force and touch by transmitting contact information with real objects by converting human movements and the feel of the objects into data. In recent years, real haptics technology has been installed in several surgical devices. A custom-made surgical drill was used to drill into the posterior lamina to verify the time required for penetration detection and the distance the drill advanced after penetration.

Oligosaccharides found in mammalian milk have shown the potential to alter brain development across multiple species. The diversity and concentration of these oligosaccharides is species-specific and varies greatly between individuals, thus understanding their role in cognitive development is warranted. We investigated the impact of early life dietary fucosylated/neutral or sialylated human milk oligosaccharides (HMO) on behaviours in tasks assessing anxiety, motivation, appetite, learning, and memory.

To date, the problem of treating pathological subepithelial capillary structures, in particular, capillary angiodysplasia of the skin, remains. One of the promising methods for its elimination is photothermolysis by laser radiation of the yellow-green spectral range due to the selective absorption of blood by hemoglobin in blood vessels and, subsequently, their sclerosis and regression. In experimental work in vitro on model objects, chilled liver and skin samples from minipigs of the Svetlogorsk population, a comparison was made based on morphological studies of the results of the green laser radiation effect with a wavelength of 525 nm on these objects.

It is now widely recognised that a positive human-animal relationship is beneficial not only for farm animals' welfare but also for productivity and the quality of products. A better understanding of animal emotions is an important goal in disciplines ranging from neuroscience to animal welfare science, but few reliable tools exist for measuring these emotions. In this study, whether the provision of toys to solicit play behaviour in pigs is associated with a change in the human-animal relationship and the emotional state of pigs was investigated.
