A series of Cu(II) coordination compounds with benzimidazole-derived bidentate chelating ligands have been prepared and characterized by X-ray crystallography. The 2-(4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-1H-benzimidazole CuCl2 complex 8 showed very potent superoxide dismutase (Cu,Zn-SOD) activity in vitro with IC50 of 0.09 microM, comparable to those described in the literature for best low molecular weight CuZnSOD mimics. Cytotoxicity studies with seven different human tumor cell lines in vitro showed that the most active 2-(4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-5-nitro-1H-benzimidazole CuCl2 complex 10 inhibited the growth of cancer cells with IC50 between 4.76 and 10.84 microM.

16S rRNA Sequencing Analysis Uncovers Dose-Dependent Cupric Chloride Effects on Silkworm Gut Microbiome Composition and Diversity.

Animals (Basel)

Copper-based pesticides are extensively used in agriculture, yet their impacts on beneficial insects remain poorly understood. Here, we investigate how cupric chloride exposure affects the gut microbiome of Bombyx mori, a model organism crucial for silk production. Using 16S rRNA sequencing, we analyzed the gut bacterial communities of fifth-instar silkworm larvae exposed to different concentrations of cupric chloride (0, 4, and 8 g/kg) in an artificial diet.

Synthesis of 2MP-CuNPs Fluorescent Probes and Their Application in Tetracycline Detection.

Sensors (Basel)

November 2024

School of Physical Science and Technology, Xinjiang University, Urumqi 830017, China.

A fluorescent probe composed of 2-mercaptopyridine-copper nanoparticles (2MP-CuNPs) was synthesized through a hydrothermal method utilizing CuCl and 2-mercaptopyridine (2MP). The experimental results indicate that the 2MP-CuNPs probe exhibited an excellent fluorescence emission peak at 525 nm with an excitation wavelength of 200 nm. Furthermore, this emission peak was accompanied by a substantial Stokes shift of 325 nm, which effectively minimized the overlap between the excitation and emission spectra, thereby enhancing detection sensitivity.

In this study, we have prepared a novel bis-Schiff-base copper(ii) complex by modifying FeO with acetylacetone functionalities and subsequently forming a Schiff base with 2-picolylamine and CuCl through a template method. Immobilization of 2,4-pentanedione and its reaction with 2-picolylamine enabled the synthesis of 1,3-diketimines (HNacNac) as an anionic ligand. This unique design resulted in a tetradentate N coordination sphere for copper(ii) ion complexation.

Effect of Anions on Deformation of Gallium-Based Liquid Metal in Solution.

Langmuir

November 2024

Division of Chemical and Energy Engineering, School of Engineering, London South Bank University, London SE1 0AA, United Kingdom.

In this study, deformation behaviors of gallium-based liquid metals in acidified cupric sulfate or cupric chloride solutions with varying concentrations of chloride anion or sulfate anion were investigated to explore their potential applications in soft machines and electronics. Gallium-based liquid metals are known for their unique deformability, making them promising materials for various fields. Previous research has shown that deformation of the liquid metal can be achieved in the presence of acidified cupric or ferric salts.
