Unusual presentation of perirenal lung metastases.

Australas Radiol

Department of Radiology, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Published: June 2006

Lung cancer is not commonly known to metastasize to the perirenal space, with only five such cases previously published. We present an unusual case of perirenal lung metastases manifesting as diffuse perinephric stranding which to our knowledge has not been described before.

Article Synopsis
  • Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare condition classified as non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis, with limited cases documented in literature.
  • A 53-year-old patient exhibited symptoms including xanthelasma (skin lesions), extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, and chronic breathing difficulties over five years.
  • Imaging scans revealed significant signs of ECD, and a biopsy solidified the diagnosis, emphasizing the need for radiologists to recognize ECD signs to prevent misdiagnosis.

Many fatal intoxications have been reported in connection with the consumption of newer, highly potent synthetic cannabinoids. Yet, a possible postmortem redistribution (PMR) might complicate reliable interpretation of analytical results. Thus, it is necessary to investigate the PMR-potential of new synthetic cannabinoids.

Crizotinib-associated renal cysts (CARC) are the development of new renal cysts or pre-existing renal cysts after the treatment with crizotinib. Most CARC disappear after crizotinib is stopped. A few CARC showed aggressive behavior that could go beyond the invasion of the renal cortex into nearby structures, including perirenal space, psoas major muscle, intestine, and abdominal wall.

Introduction: Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLP) was initially defined as a tumor containing differentiated liposarcoma and distinct regions of nonlipogenic spindle cell or pleomorphic sarcoma. Retroperitoneal liposarcomas feature a characteristic appearance with a predominantly fatty component, and cystic liposarcomas are rare. We describe a case of retroperitoneal DDLP predominantly consisting of multilocular cysts.

Article Synopsis
  • SETD2 and BAP1 are chromatin remodeling genes that are frequently mutated in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and play a role in tumor progression and metastasis.
  • A study compared 7 cases of locally advanced ccRCC with SETD2 mutations to 7 cases with BAP1 mutations, finding that SETD2-mutated tumors exhibited aggressive growth with a rhabdoid morphology and significant invasive characteristics.
  • The study emphasizes the importance of molecular testing for SETD2 and BAP1 mutations in ccRCC for better risk assessment and treatment strategies, as their high-grade features can overlap, making it challenging to identify the mutations based solely on tumor appearance.
