An efficient one-pot procedure for the preparation of 10beta,17beta-dihydroxyestra-1,4-dien-3-one (p-quinol, 1, 75%) is reported, involving oxidation of 17beta-estradiol with potassium permanganate. Similar treatment of 17beta-estradiol with sodium chlorite led to 10beta-chloro-17beta-hydroxyestra-1,4-dien-3-one (2) in 44% yield along with smaller amounts 4-chloro-10beta,17beta-dihydroxyestra-1,4-dien-3-one (3), 2,10beta-dichloro-17beta-hydroxyestra-1,4-dien-3-one (4), and 4,10beta-dichloro-17beta-hydroxyestra-1,4-dien-3-one (5).

The concentration of S is a vital environmental indicator for evaluating the quality of source water, surface water, and wastewater, and it has a significant impact on biological systems, particularly human health. Therefore, it is crucial to detect S selectively and sensitively. In this study, we developed a simple and rapid one-pot method to prepare a gold nanocluster (BSA-AuNCs) probe for fluorescence-enhanced detection of S toxemia and analyzed the morphological characteristics of BSA-AuNCs and its complex with S using various characterization techniques.

Heparin (HEP) is one of the oldest anticoagulant drugs, widely used in clinical settings, particularly in surgery and dialysis machines. Despite its long history, it remains extensively employed in medical practice. This study introduces a selective and cost-effective method for the rapid detection of HEP using red-emission carbon dots (R-CDs).

The contamination of water resources by selenium (Se), particularly in the highly toxic Se(IV) oxidation state, poses a significant environmental and public health concern due to its detrimental impacts on humans and aquatic ecosystems. In this work, we report a novel composite foam (CFC) by incorporating chitosan (CS), cellulose nanofibers (CNF) and iron oxyhydroxide (FeOOH) nanoparticles through a one-pot fabrication process. The CFC foam features a three-dimensional porous structure, conferring both exceptional mechanical strength and superior adsorption performance for Se(IV), with a maximum equilibrium adsorption capacity of 90 mg/g achieved within 3 h.

Herein, we report a novel ratiometric nanoprobe (CDs@LZIF-8-Eu) that integrates fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) and Eu on LZIF-8 via a one-pot stirring method. Tetracyclines (TCs) can create inner filter effect on CDs while simultaneously generating an antenna effect with Eu. The rapid and efficient adsorption capabilities of LZIF-8 enhance the probability of TCs interacting with the signal tags.

Visible-light-driven metal- and photocatalyst-free cascade 1,4-HAT and dearomative spirocyclization of -benzylacrylamides are described for sustainable synthesis of a variety of pharmaceutically important γ-ketoamides and 2-Azaspiro[4.5]decanes in one pot in good to excellent yields. Readily accessible and nontoxic materials, expensive Ir or Ru photocatalyst-free mild conditions, excellent functional group tolerance, operational simplicity, and scalability enhance the practical value of this protocol.
