Published: June 2006

Objective: To report a rare case of collision sebaceous and basal cell carcinomas of the eyelid.

Design: Interventional case report.

Methods: An 80-year-old woman presented with a nodular lesion at the center of the left lower eyelid. Small ulceration and madarosis were also present.

Results: The patient underwent excisional biopsy with frozen section control. Histopathology showed mixed sebaceous as well as basal cell carcinoma with uninvolved surgical margins. Oncologic survey did not disclose any other lesion. At 6-month follow-up, there was no evidence of recurrence, new lesions, or metastasis.

Conclusion: Sebaceous and basal cell carcinomas can coexist in the eyelid within the same clinical lesion. Because of the potential risk of metastasis of sebaceous carcinoma, close follow-up of the patients is advisable.

Cystic basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a rare subtype of BCC (1). Histologically, it is usually characterized by multiple small cysts without a clinical cystic appearance (2). Herein, we report an unusual case of cystic BCC with a large vulvar cyst.

Most of the triple negative phenotype or basal-like molecular subtypes of breast cancers are associated with aggressive clinical behaviour and show poor disease prognosis. Current treatment options are constrained, emphasizing the need for novel combinatorial therapies for this particular tumor subtype. Our group has demonstrated that functionally active p21 activated kinase 1 (PAK1) exhibits significantly higher expression levels in clinical triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) samples compared to other subtypes, as well as adjacent normal tissues.

This study aims to identify factors influencing aesthetic outcomes following facial basal cell carcinoma (BCC) plastic surgery to enhance post-operative satisfaction and cosmetic results. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 303 patients who underwent facial BCC plastic surgery between June 2021 and June 2023. Data on demographics, blood tests, SF-12, and Skindex-16 scores were analyzed.

Unlabelled: Zika virus (ZIKV) infection can lead to a variety of clinical outcomes, including severe congenital abnormalities. The phosphatidylserine (PS) receptors AXL and TIM-1 are recognized as critical entry factors for ZIKV . However, it remains unclear if and how ZIKV regulates these receptors during infection.

Due to their self-renewal and differentiation capabilities, pluripotent stem cells hold immense potential for advancing our understanding of human disease and developing cell-based or pharmacological interventions. Realizing this potential, however, requires a thorough understanding of the basal cellular mechanisms which occur during differentiation. Lipids are critical molecules that define the morphological, biochemical, and functional role of cells.
