Urine samples were collected from 10 cows during the estrous cycle (Day 0=day of observed estrus) and investigated for pheromone activity using a quantitative rat bioassay. Pheromone activity in this assay was given in impulses/45 sec. Progesterone was measured in milk fat to verify the stage of cycle. The maximal response of rats was found on Day -1 (20.0 +/- 3.5 impulses/45 sec; x +/- SEM), and impulse rates were clearly higher (P

The chemical synthesis of biologically active natural products has diverse objectives and missions, including 1) determining the structures of the natural products, 2) providing synthetic samples for studying the activity and function, 3) providing a basis for applied research on these compounds, . I have studied various biologically active natural products and conducted synthetic studies on these compounds with various objectives. In this review, I present the results of my research, focusing on natural products with potential as agrochemicals.

The pheromones of crane flies (Tipulidae), one of the largest families within the order Diptera (over 15,000 species), are unknown. The aim of our study was to identify the chemical compounds involved in communication in , a representative species of the family. Female cuticular washes were found to be attractive to males in a bioassay.

The ability to reproduce depends on metabolic status. In rodents, the ventral premammillary nucleus (PMv) integrates metabolic and reproductive signals. While leptin (adiposity-related) signaling in the PMv is critical for female fertility, male reproductive functions are strongly influenced by glucose homeostasis.

The identification of sex pheromones in native New Zealand moths has been limited, largely due to their minimal pest impact on agricultural ecosystems. The kōwhai moth, Uresiphita polygonalis maorialis, a native crambid, is known for its herbivory on Sophora spp. and Lupinus arboreus leaves.

Many animals display physiological and behavioral activities limited to specific times of the day. Certain insects exhibit clear daily rhythms in their mating activities that are regulated by an internal biological clock. However, the specific genetic mechanisms underlying this regulation remain largely unexplored.
