The results of experimental (150 animals) and clinical (783 patients) studies of percutaneous sclerotherapy of benign nodular affections of the thyroid gland with ethanol are analyzed. Reduction of the cysts depends first of all on ratio of fluid to solid components. Technical features of the method and disputable points of mechanism of action are discussed. High efficacy of sclerotherapy in benign nodular affections of the thyroid gland is demonstrated.
