Objective: To establish a method for HPLC fingerprint determination of different growing areas on Fructus Aurantii fried with bran.

Method: HPLC chromatographic experiment was carried out by ultrasonic distilment of acetacetic ester, gradient elution mode and the detection wavelength of 320 nm. The column temperature was set at 30 degrees C, and flow rate is 1.0 mL x min(-1). Naringin served as the reference standard. Ten batches of Fructus Aurantii fried with bran in the different places were analyzed. Similarity evaluation system for chromatographic fingerprint of TCM proceeded the evaluation, The correlation coefficients between ten batches were used to define the similarity.

Result: There were eleven characteristic peaks in Fructus Aurantii fried with bran by HPLC fingerprint which constituted fingerprint characters. Both the reproducibility and stability on HPLC fingerprint were proper.

Conclusion: The method was accurate and simple. It can be applied to the analysis on Fructus Aurantii fried with bran. The fingerprint spectrum can be used to distinguish Fructus Aurantii fried with bran and to be its quality control.

Article Synopsis
  • A study examined the effectiveness and safety of Aurantii Fructus Immaturus flavonoid (AFIF) tablets compared to domperidone for treating functional dyspepsia (FD).
  • After 4 weeks of treatment, both AFIF and domperidone showed similar rates of symptom relief, but AFIF had a significantly higher rate of symptom disappearance 4 weeks after stopping treatment.
  • The AFIF group also experienced fewer adverse events, suggesting a better safety profile compared to domperidone.

In recent years, modulation of microglial phenotype transformation has emerged as a promising strategy for treating central nervous system disorders. Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhishi), a traditional Chinese medicine with versatile applications, contains p-Synephrine (p-SYN) as its principal bioactive compound, recognized for its anti-inflammatory efficacy. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying these effects remain unclear.

Aurantii Fructus Immaturus and Aurantii Fructus are the dried young and immature fruits of Rutaceae, which mainly originate from the same part of lime. They are harvested from the same part with different maturity levels, which leads to different medicinal materials. It has been reported that Aurantii Fructus Immaturus and Aurantii Fructus contain flavonoids, alkaloids, volatile oils, coumarins and other components, which have a variety of pharmacological effects such as gastrointestinal disorder-alleviating, anti-anxiety, lipid metabolism-modulating, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant effects.

Fructus Aurantii, a Chinese herbal medicine, has been indicated to have antidepressant effects in our previous study. However, the main component and specific mechanisms of the antidepressant effects of Fructus Aurantii still need to be further revealed. This study aimed to explore the main antidepressant component of Fructus Aurantii and the underlying mechanisms of its antidepressant effects in the hippocampus.

Key Laboratory of Agro-Ecological Processes in Subtropical Region, Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changsha 410125, China.

This experiment aimed to explore the effects of flavonoids in (FFAI) on carcass traits, meat quality, and the antioxidant capacity of finishing pigs. The results indicated that the addition of an appropriate amount of FFAI into their diet could significantly reduce the backfat thickness and perirenal fat percentage of finishing pigs, as well as the drip loss, water-holding capacity, shear force, and the levels of lactate, glucose-6-phosphate, glucose, ATP, phosphofructokinase, and pyruvate in the longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle. It also elevated the levels of flavor amino acids such as glutamate, serine, and threonine, and enriched the composition of flavor substances, including benzene and octanal, which significantly contributed to the enhancement of pork flavor.
