Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4 or clusters of differentiation [CD]26) is a multifunctional molecule with established roles in metabolism. Pharmacologic inhibition of DPP-4 is widely used to improve glycemic control through regulation of the incretin effect. Colaterally, CD26/DPP-4 inhibition appears to be beneficial in many inflammatory conditions, namely in delaying progression of liver pathology.

BACKGROUND This study investigated the protective effects of pharmaceutical CD26/dipeptidylpeptidase-4 (CD26/DPP-4) inhibitor in lung transplantation (LTx). Changes in protein expression associated with the treatment were screened and identified to evaluate the role of kininogen-1 in early-term ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury after LTx. MATERIAL AND METHODS Orthotopic single LTx was performed in syngeneic C57BL/6 mice, with a pharmaceutical CD26/DPP-4 inhibitor (vildagliptin, subcutaneous injection, 10 mg/kg, every 12 h) administered to the investigational group.

Purpose:: To investigate the role of bradykinin in a rat lung transplantation (LTx) model and preliminarily discuss the relationship between bradykinin and CD26/DPP-4.
Methods:: Rats were randomly divided into four groups: Control (CON), Sham, low potassium dextranglucose (LPD), and AB192 (n=15/group). Orthotopic single LTx was performed in the LPD and AB192 groups.

A lot of evidence for the importance of CD26/dipeptidyl peptidase IV (CD26/DPP IV) in immunoactivation has been reported; however, its involvement in colitis remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of CD26/DPP IV deficiency on immunophenotypic changes associated with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in wild-type (WT) and CD26-deficient mice. Development of clinical symptoms of colitis and animal health status parameters were assessed; the expression of the nuclear factor (NF)-κB p65 subunit was measured by quantitative real-time PCR, while cell characterization was determined by flow cytometry and immunohistochemical staining.

Background: Dipeptidyl peptidase 4/CD26 (DPP-4) is a widely expressed cell surface serine protease. DPP-4 inhibitors, one of common anti-diabetic agents play a protective role in bone metabolism in recent studies. A soluble form of DPP-4 is found in serum, and exhibits DPP-4 enzymatic activity.
