Genetic polymorphisms at four STR loci from the HLA region in a Venezuelan population.

J Forensic Sci

Laboratorio de Fisiopatología, Centro de Medicina Experimental "Miguel Layrisse," Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas, Caracas, Venezuela.

Published: May 2006

Whole blood samples from 74 unrelated healthy individuals were collected. The donors' sample included Venezuelan mestizos from various regions of the country, but mostly from the resident population of Caracas City. A Venezuelan mestizo is the offspring of a mating between a native Venezuelan and a person born in Europe, mainly in Spain.

Association of ESR1 Polymorphisms with Susceptibility to Migraine: A Meta-Analysis and Trial Sequential Analysis.

Curr Pain Headache Rep

January 2025

ImmGen EvSys Lab, BT-113 Department of Biotechnology, Berhampur University, Bhanja Bihar Berhampur, Berhampur, 760007, Odisha, India.

Background: Migraine is a highly prevalent and incapacitating neurological disorder mostly characterised by recurring attacks of moderate to severe throbbing and pulsating pain on one side of the head. The role of estrogen in migraine has been well documented. Although genetic variations in the ESR1 gene have been associated with an increased risk of developing migraine, the findings are inconsistent.

Association of estrogen and progesterone receptor polymorphisms with idiopathic thin endometrium.

Pharmacogenet Genomics

January 2025

Reproductive Medicine, Instituto Bernabeu of Fertility and Gynaecology.

The research question is as follows: Are estrogen and progesterone receptor genotypes associated with thin endometrium? We performed a prospective cohort study of 129 patients who underwent preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidies. These patients were categorized according to endometrial thickness: >7 mm control group (n = 94) and ≤7 mm study group (n = 35). Polymorphisms in the genes ESR1 (rs9340799 and rs3138774), ESR2 (rs1256049 and rs4986938), and PGR (rs1042838) were analyzed.

Background: The p.A53T variant in the SNCA gene was considered, until recently, to be the only SNCA variant causing familial Parkinson's disease (PD) in the Greek population. We identified a novel heterozygous p.

Objective: Heterocyclic amines (HCAs) are mutagens and carcinogens primarily generated when cooking meat at high temperatures or until well-done, and their major metabolic pathway includes hepatic N-hydroxylation via CYP1A2 followed by O-acetylation via N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2). NAT2 expresses a well-defined genetic polymorphism in humans resulting in rapid and slow acetylators. Recent epidemiological studies reported significant associations between dietary HCA exposure and insulin resistance and type II diabetes.

Objective: Diabetic neuropathy (DN), a common and debilitating complication of diabetes, significantly impairs the quality of life of affected individuals. While multiple studies have indicated changes in the expression of specific matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in patients with DN, and basic research has reported the impact of MMPs on DN, there is a lack of systematic research and the causal relationship remains unclear. The objective of this research is to investigate the casual relationship between MMPs and DN through two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR).
