The effect of methanol and aqueous methanol extract of Origanum vulgare L. ssp. hirtum on aldose reductase and soybean lipoxygenase was investigated. The results revealed a promising potential of oregano for preventing diabetes complications in the long term and an antiinflammatory efficacy by inhibiting soybean lipoxygenase.

This study evaluated the physicochemical properties, oxidative stability, and endogenous enzyme activities in fresh pork loin from pigs fattened by supplementation of 3 % soybean oil (control), 3 % linseed oil or 3 % linseed oil combined with 0.3 mg/kg selenomethionine (SeMet). Both linseed oil treatments led to higher n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) levels, lower values, n-6/n-3 ratios, and lipoxygenase activity compared to the control ( < 0.

ConspectusQuantum effects are critical to understanding many chemical dynamical processes in condensed phases, where interactions between molecules and their environment are usually strong and non-Markovian. In this Account, we review recent progress from our group in development and application of the hierarchical equations of motion (HEOM) method, highlighting its ability to address some challenging problems in quantum chemical dynamics. In the HEOM method, the bath degrees of freedom are represented using effective modes from exponential decomposition of the bath correlation function.

This Chapter describes methods for the biosynthetic substitution of the mononuclear, non-heme iron in plant and animal lipoxygenases (LOXs). Substitution of this iron center for a manganese ion results in an inactive, yet faithful structural surrogate of the LOX enzymes. This metal ion substitution permits structural and dynamical studies of enzyme-substrate complexes in solution and immobilized on lipid membrane surfaces.

In our continuous efforts to find out leads against the enzyme 15-lipoxygenase (15-LOX), the current study deals with the synthesis of a series of new -alkyl/aralkyl/aryl derivatives of 2-(4-ethyl-5-(1-phenylcarbamoyl)piperidine-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-ylthio)methylacetamide () with anti-LOX activities. The synthesis was started by reacting phenylisocyanate with isonipecotate that sequentially converted into N-substituted ester (), hydrazide (), semicarbazide () and -ethylated 5-(1-phenylcarbamoyl)piperidine-1,2,4-triazole (). The final compounds, were obtained by reacting with various -alkyl/aralkyl/aryl electrophiles.
