Purpose: To study the in vitro antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract of salvia miltiorrhiza bunge on several oral pathogenic microbes.
Methods: Antimicrobial activities of ethanol extract of salvia miltiorrhiza bunge for porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277, A. actinomycetes comitans ATCC 24523, Streptococcus mutans, and Lactobacillus were determined using the cup-plate method. The minimum antibacterial concentrations of ethanol extract of salvia miltiorrhiza bunge were measured. SPSS10.0 software package was used for Student's t test.
Results: Ethanol extract of salvia miltiorrhiza bunge had antimicrobial activities on Porphyromonas gingivalis, A. actinomycetemcomitans, Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus, and the minimum inhibitory concentrations were 15.62 mg/ml, 15.62 mg/ml, 62.50mg/ml and 15.62 mg/ml; The pH of the solution was influential to its antimicrobial activity.
Conclusion: Ethanol extract of salvia miltiorrhiza bunge has an antimicrobial activity on oral pathogenic microbes.

Recently, seaweed extracts have been found to have potential in skin benefits. This study, therefore, aimed to explore phytochemical analysis, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and wound healing properties of brown seaweed ethanolic extract (SPEE) on human skin keratinocyte HaCaT cells and the possible mechanism involved. Our results indicated that SPEE contained flavonoid, phenolic, and carotenoid as the major active constituents.

Objectives: This research was aimed at investigating the effects of 70% ethanolic flower extract on cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression in the gingival epithelium in rats with diabetic periodontitis.
Methods: Diabetes and periodontitis were induced in 32 male individuals weighing 200-300 g each. Streptozotocin dissolved in 1 mL citrate buffer was injected intraperitoneally to elicit hyperglycemia.

The global problem of infectious and deadly diseases caused by microbes such as candida and mycobacteria presents major scientific and medical challenges. Antimicrobial drug resistance is a rapidly growing problem with potentially devastating consequences. Various pathogens can cause skin infections, such as bacteria, fungi, and parasites.

Traditional extraction under merely one specific solvent was confronted with incomplete phytochemical unscramble problem. In view of this, in order to obtain the overall chemical understanding, we attempted to use Astragalus membranaceus flower, an abundant exploitable resource, to screen a novel extraction mixing scheme via gradient solvents based on the ions' quantity detected in UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS approach. Samples were firstly extracted by different concentration ethanol, and then, six mixing schemes were investigated and one scheme with maximum detected ions was screened out.

The H9N2 subtype of avian influenza virus (AIV) causes severe immunosuppression and high mortality in view of its frequent co-infection with other pathogens, resulting in significant economic losses in the poultry industry. Current vaccines provide suboptimal immune protection against H9N2 AIV owing to antigenic variations, highlighting the urgent need for safe and effective antiviral drugs for the prevention and treatment of this virus. This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effects of Hypericum japonicum extract on H9N2 AIV.
