We built a cryogenic nucleation pulse chamber for measuring homogeneous nucleation rates of argon. First measurements show that the growth rate of argon droplets at nucleation conditions is rather high so that nucleation and growth could not yet be decoupled. Nevertheless, the experiments permit an estimate of the onset of nucleation corresponding to a nucleation rate of J=10(7(+/-2)) cm(-3) s(-1) at temperatures 52

The antiscale magnetic treatment (ASMT) claims to utilize magnetic field to combat scaling. However, its underlying mechanism, effectiveness, and reliability remain controversial. To address these contentious aspects, we analyze the influence of a magnetic field on the different stages of typical scale formation, using [Formula: see text] as a model scale.

Heterogeneous ice nucleation is a widespread phenomenon in nature. Despite extensive research on ice nucleation near biological antifreeze proteins, a probe for ice nucleation and growth processes at the atomic level is still lacking. Herein, we present simulation evidence of the heterogeneous ice nucleation process on the ice-binding surface (IBS) of the antifreeze protein (TmAFP).

The design of anode-free zinc (Zn) batteries with high reversibility at high areal capacity has received significant attention recently, which is quietly challenging yet. Here, a Zn alloyed interface through electroplating is introduced, providing homogeneous Zn prenucleation sites to stabilize subsequent Zn nucleation and plating. By employing Zn-Cu alloy as a module, the complementary simulations and characterizations confirm that the prenucleation alloyed interfaces achieve a homogeneous electric field distribution and greatly enhance the stability of the Zn anode.

Commercial 3D zinc foam anodes with high deposition space and ion permeation have shown great potential in aqueous ion batteries. However, the local accumulated stress from its high-curvature surface exacerbates the Zn dendrite issue, leading to poor reversibility. Herein, we have employed zincophilic N-doped carbon@Sn composites (N-C@Sn) as nano-fillings to effectively release the local stress of high curvature surface of 3D Zn foams toward dendrite-free anode in aqueous zinc ion battery (AZIB).

Owing to the nanoscale thickness, excellent mechanical and chemical stabilities, 2D materials including graphene and hexagonal boron nitride have emerged as promising artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) candidates for lithium metal batteries. However, whether the implementation of 2D materials is beneficial to electrochemical performance remains controversial, and the key to confining the electroplated Li beneath the 2D materials remains elusive. Here, a nanocrystalline graphene (NG) film is synthesized on high-carbon Cu and the Li plating/stripping behavior on Cu grown with different 2D materials is investigated.
