Background: Diffuse lamellar keratitis (DLK) is a relatively new syndrome that is increasingly being reported after LASIK. We have observed that a hyperopic shift may be associated with the occurrence of this diffuse lamellar keratitis.
Case Presentation: A 26 year old man developed bilateral diffuse lamellar keratitis (DLK) following myopic LASIK. The residual refractive error was +0.5D OD and +0.25D OS at the end of the first week. The sterile infiltrates resolved over a period of 4-6 weeks on topical steroid therapy. A progressive hyperopic shift was noted in the right eye with an error +4.25Dsph/+0.25Dcyl 20 at the final follow up 6 months post surgery.
Conclusion: Diffuse lamellar keratitis after LASIK may be associated with a significant hyperopic shift.

This review analyzes the primary etiological factors of diffuse lamellar keratitis following various laser corneal refractive surgery techniques. The use of advanced diagnostic methods such as optical coherence tomography, confocal microscopy, and immunohistochemical methods has allowed for the identification of the main pathogenetic mechanisms underlying this condition, which will help improve the prevention, as well as assist with the development of optimal treatment strategies for this complication.

This manuscript reports on the effect of different bile salts concentration on the gastrointestinal digestion of casein and casein-agar hybrid systems and evaluates the effect on the nanostructural assembly of the digestion products through the application of advanced small angle X-ray scattering analysis (SAXS). The results showed that bile salts promote the hydrolysis of micellar casein upon in vitro gastrointestinal digestions. It is noteworthy that in the presence of agar, bile salts interact with the polysaccharide, leading to a reduction in their proteolytic activity.

Despite considerable interest in heteroatom-containing conjugated polymers, there are only few examples with heavier p-block elements in the conjugation path. The recently reported heavier acyclic diene metathesis (HADMET) allowed for the synthesis of a polymer containing Ge=Ge double bonds-albeit insoluble and with limited degree of polymerization. By incorporation of long alkyl chains, we now obtained soluble representatives, which exhibit degrees of polymerization near infinity according to diffusion-ordered NMR spectroscopy (DOSY) and dynamic light scattering (DLS).
