The transverse snake instability of the bright soliton solution of the (2+1)-dimensional hyperbolic nonlinear Schrödinger equation is experimentally studied. We observed this instability in the spatial distribution of the temporal spectrum of spatially extended femtosecond pulses propagating in normally dispersive self-defocusing planar semiconductor waveguide.

-Phylogenomics allows us to uncover the historical signal of evolutionary processes through time and estimate phylogenetic networks accounting for these signals. Insight from genome-wide data further allows us to pinpoint the contributions to phylogenetic signal from hybridization, introgression, and ancestral polymorphism across the genome. Here, we focus on how these processes have contributed to phylogenetic discordance among rattlesnakes (genera Crotalus and Sistrurus), a group for which there are numerous conflicting phylogenetic hypotheses based on a diverse array of molecular datasets and analytical methods.

Autonomic instability is a rare complication following elapid bites. Blindness too is a rare complication following Russell's viper bite and is most likely due to cerebral infarction or direct ocular toxicity. We report a case of a young male from Sri Lanka who developed both transient blindness and autonomic instability following severe envenomation by a Russell's viper bite.

Wagler described Natrix sexcarinata through a specimen collected on the banks of the Amazon River in Brazil, without citing a specific location. The species was later transferred to different Neotropical genera (Chironius, Herpetodryas, Phrynonax, and Pseustes) currently allocated in the Family Colubridae. The taxonomic instability of Natrix sexcarinata is probably due to its brief original description in combination with its supposedly inaccurate illustration.

Microtubule targeting agents (MTA) are anti-cancer molecules that bind tubulin and interfere with the microtubule functions, eventually leading to cell death. In the present study, we used an in vitro microtubule polymerization assay to screen several venom families for the presence of anti-microtubule activity. We isolated myotoxin-3, a peptide of the crotamine family, and three isoforms from the venom of the Northern Pacific rattlesnake , which was able to increase tubulin polymerization.
