Introduction: Patients poisoned with paracetamol are treated with acetylcysteine. In patients without hepatocellular injury, an increased prothrombin time or international normalized ratio has been observed during acetylcysteine administration. The international normalized ratio is preferred as it is a standardized calculation of prothrombin time independent of reagents and machinery.

BACKGROUND Lupus anticoagulants (LA) can interfere with routine coagulation tests such as the activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) and prothrombin time (PT). The international normalized ratio (INR) is derived from PT and is used to monitor warfarin therapy. A positive LA result is one of the laboratory criteria of the 2023 ACR/EULAR antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) classification criteria.

Objective: Loss of function of the phospholipid scramblase (PLS) TMEM16F results in Scott Syndrome, a hereditary bleeding disorder generally attributed to intrinsic platelet dysfunction. The role of TMEM16F in endothelial cells, however, is not well understood. We sought to test the hypothesis that endothelial TMEM16F contributes to hemostasis by measuring bleeding time and venous clotting in endothelial-specific knockout (ECKO) mice.

Background: The diagnostic criteria of neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis caused by citrin deficiency (NICCD) have not been established due to non-specific clinical manifestations, and our understanding on the treatment outcome is still limited. We aim to investigate the biochemical characteristics, genetic variants, and treatment outcome of NICCD patients.
Methods: We compared the nutritional status and biochemical characteristics of 55 NICCD infants and 27 idiopathic neonatal cholestasis (INC) infants.

Background: Chronic liver disease is a growing global health problem, leading to hepatic decompensation characterized by an array of clinical and biochemical complications. Several scoring systems have been introduced in assessing the severity of hepatic decompensation with the most frequent ones are Child-Pugh score, model of end-stage liver disease (MELD) score, and MELD-Na score. Anemia is frequently observed in cirrhotic patients and is linked to worsened clinical outcomes.
