We investigated the effect of modeled microgravity (MMG) on normal vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and neoplastic human breast cancer cells (MCF-7). In both cell types, MMG induced partial arrest in G2M and increased p14-3-3, HSP70, HSP60 and p21 expression. Cells synchronized by 24h starvation reentered the normal cycle within 24h if released in complete medium and exposed to normal gravity, but not if exposed to MMG. Similarly, MMG prevented VSMC and MCF-7 cells from overcoming growth arrest and re-synthesizing DNA. This study shows that cells adjust their metabolic rate in response to MMG.

: Airborne exogenous antigen inhalation can induce neutrophil infiltration of the airways, while eosinophils migrate to the airways in allergic airway inflammation. During a bacterial infection, Th2-associated cytokine IL-4, by binding to the IL-4 receptor (IL-4R), can suppress neutrophil recruitment to the site of inflammation. In the present study, we estimated whether the IL-4-dependent suppression of neutrophil recruitment contributed to the development of an immune response in asthma.

Introduction: Facial expression perception is the process by which someone can interpret the emotion of another individual using their facial cues. Below-average scores on tests designed to measure facial expression recognition (FER) accuracies are associated with inappropriate behavioral responses and are often linked to mental or neurological disorders. Head-down bed rest microgravity analog studies show changes in facial emotion processing that may indicate a behavioral health risk during spaceflight.

In this paper, two triazine ring-containing quaternary ammonium salt Gemini surfactants (C-2-C and C-2-C) were synthesized. The minimum inhibitory concentrations against sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) of C-2-C, C-2-C and dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride (1227) were determined using the double-dilution method. The performance of C-2-C and C-2-C in inhibiting carbon steel corrosion in the presence of SRB was examined, with 1227 serving as a control sample.

Objective: In this study, we analyzed the transcriptome sequences of Kupffer cells exposed to simulated microgravity for 3 d and conducted biological experiments to determine how microgravity initiates apoptosis in Kupffer cells.
Methods: Rotary cell culture system was used to construct a simulated microgravity model. GO and KEGG analyses were conducted using the DAVID database.
