To assess the immediate effects of temporary bite-raising using light-cured orthodontic band cement on the superficial masseter and anterior temporalis electromyography (EMG) activity in healthy adults. Surface EMG signals were recorded bilaterally from the superficial masseter and anterior temporalis muscles of 30 volunteers with a normal occlusion, before and after having temporary bite-raising. The bite-raising was done by adding light-cured orthodontic band cement (3x5x2 mm WxLxH) on the lingual cusps of both upper first molars.

Palataly-displaced incisors or canines are typically extruded. The crossbite must be corrected without occlusal interference during alignment. Occlusal interference associated with such extrusion can prevent proper tooth positioning, and therefore, the temporary use of a bite plate may be necessary' However, unnecessary bite raising may occur when a bite plate is used in adults, and the patient's discomfort due to such an appliance cannot be ignored.

Dahl partial bite-raising appliances have been used over the past 30 years for the management of occlusal tooth tissue loss, particularly in patients who have lost normal occlusal vertical dimension. The more recent use of Dahl-type appliances for individual teeth has changed the restorative management of patients with localized anterior tooth erosion. The Dahl treatment principle can be applied to those patients with and without the loss of occlusal vertical dimension.

Tantalum implants to provide reference points were placed in the basal portion of upper and lower jaw bones. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken with and without the splint at the beginning of treatment and thereafter every two months till the difference between measurements was as small as possible.
