Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) attempts to reconstruct the internal impedance distribution in a medium from electrical measurements at electrodes on the medium surface. One key difficulty with EIT measurements is due to the position uncertainty of the electrodes, especially for medical applications, in which the body surface moves during breathing and posture change. In this paper, we develop a new approach which directly reconstructs both electrode movements and internal conductivity changes for difference EIT. The reconstruction problem is formulated in terms of a regularized inverse, using an augmented Jacobian, sensitive to impedance change and electrode movement. A reconstruction prior term is computed to impose a smoothness constraint on both the spatial distribution of impedance change and electrode movement. A one-step regularized imaging algorithm is then implemented based on the augmented Jacobian and smoothness constraint. Images were reconstructed using the algorithm of this paper with data from simulated 2D and 3D conductivity changes and electrode movements, and from saline phantom measurements. Results showed good reconstruction of the actual electrode movements, as well as a dramatic reduction in image artefacts compared to images from the standard algorithm, which did not account for electrode movement.

Objectives: Cochlear implant array malpositioning is associated with impaired speech perception, vertigo, and facial nerve stimulation. Tip fold-over is a subset of malpositioning that occurs more often with perimodiolar electrodes, but historically it has not been characterized due to lack of knowledge regarding electrode movements of the electrode within the cochlea. The aim of this study was to characterize the mechanics of tip fold-over events and their associated insertion pressure profiles.

Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is a disorder mediated by autoantibodies against the GluN1 subunit of NMDAR. It occurs with severe neuropsychiatric symptoms that often improve with immunotherapy. Clinical studies and animal models based on patients' antibody transfer or NMDAR immunization suggest that the autoantibodies play a major pathogenic role.

Introduction: Dynamic modulation of grip occurs mainly within the major structures of the brain stem, in parallel with cortical control. This basic, but fundamental level of the brain, is robust to ill-formed feedback and to be useful, it may not require all the perceptual information of feedback we are consciously aware. This makes it viable candidate for using peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS), a form of tactile feedback that conveys intensity and location information of touch well but does not currently reproduce other qualities of natural touch.

Highly concentrated salt solutions are promising electrolytes for battery applications due to their low flammability, their high thermal stability, and their good compatibility with electrode materials. Understanding transport processes in highly concentrated electrolytes is a challenging task, since strong ion-ion and ion-solvent interactions lead to highly correlated movements on the microscopic scale. Here, we use an experimental overdetermination method to obtain accurate Onsager transport coefficients for concentrated binary electrolytes composed of either sulfolane (SL) or dimethyl carbonate (DMC) as solvent and either LiTFSI or LiFSI as salt.

In animal cells, Gα subunit of the heterotrimeric G proteins can bind to both the N-terminal and C-terminal domains of G-protein-activated inwardly rectifying K channels (GIRKs) to inhibit their activities. In Arabidopsis guard cells, the Gα subunit GPA1 mediates multiple stimuli-regulated stomatal movements via inhibiting guard cell inward-rectifying K (K) current, but it remains unclear whether GPA1 directly interacts with and inhibits the activities of K channels. Here, we found that GPA1 interacted with the transmembrane domain rather than the intracellular domain of the Shaker family K channel KAT1.
