Left-Right Brain-Wide Asymmetry of Neuroanatomy in the Mouse Brain.

Neuroimage

January 2025

Department of Genetics, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA; Department of Pathology, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA, USA. Electronic address:

Left-right asymmetry of the human brain is widespread through its anatomy and function. However, limited microscopic understanding of it exists, particularly for anatomical asymmetry where there are few well-established animal models. In humans, most brain regions show subtle, population-average regional asymmetries in thickness or surface area, alongside a macro-scale twisting called the cerebral petalia in which the right hemisphere protrudes anteriorly past the left.

Mechanistic basis of temperature adaptation in microtubule dynamics across frog species.

Curr Biol

January 2025

Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, Virchowweg 12, 10117 Berlin, Germany; Marine Biological Laboratory, 7 Mbl St., Woods Hole, MA 02543, USA; Berliner Hochschule für Technik, Luxemburger Straße 10, 13353 Berlin, Germany. Electronic address:

Cellular processes are remarkably effective across diverse temperature ranges, even with highly conserved proteins. In the context of the microtubule cytoskeleton, which is critically involved in a wide range of cellular activities, this is particularly striking, as tubulin is one of the most conserved proteins while microtubule dynamic instability is highly temperature sensitive. Here, we leverage the diversity of natural tubulin variants from three closely related frog species that live at different temperatures.

Dissocial personality is understood as a personality that does not ideologize most social norms and is characterized by a lack of empathy. Precise criteria for diagnosing dissocial personality are included in the ICD-10 classification, which is still in force in Poland. This classification is widely available in both Polish and English.

Population pharmacokinetics of blonanserin in Japanese adolescent and adult patients with schizophrenia.

Drug Metab Pharmacokinet

November 2024

Clinical Research, Drug Development Division, Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd., 33-94, Enoki-cho, Suita, Osaka, 564-0053, Japan. Electronic address:

The second-generation antipsychotic blonanserin is a highly selective, full antagonist of dopamine D and D and serotonin 5-HT receptors. It is currently prescribed for patients with schizophrenia in Japan. We aimed to develop a population pharmacokinetic model of oral blonanserin, including data from 12 to 77 years old patients, to assess the covariates that influence blonanserin pharmacokinetics and evaluate appropriate dosage regimens in adolescents versus adults.

Background: Natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) techniques may help harness unstructured free-text electronic health record (EHR) data to detect adverse drug events (ADEs) and thus improve pharmacovigilance. However, evidence of their real-world effectiveness remains unclear.

Objective: To summarise the evidence on the effectiveness of NLP/ML in detecting ADEs from unstructured EHR data and ultimately improve pharmacovigilance in comparison to other data sources.
