Introduction: The gut microbiome has an established role in allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT), but not in an auto-HCT setting. We have hypothesized that fecal short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) and urinary 3-indoxyl sulfate (3-IS), which are metabolites derived from the action of the gut microbiome on dietary fiber, play a role in auto-HCT outcomes.

Methods: This was a single-center prospective study involving auto-HCT recipients.

Background: Gut microbiota generates a series of bioactive metabolites that can be converted into uremic toxins such as trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO), p-cresyl sulfate (pCS), and indoxyl sulfate (IS). The aim of the study was to examine the association between diet and the concentrations of the mentioned gut microbiota-derived uremic toxins.

Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted involving 210 participants: 84 hemodialysis (HD) patients, 44 peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients, 52 kidney transplant recipients (KTR), and 30 healthy controls.

Painimation, a novel digital pain assessment tool, allows patients to communicate their pain quality, intensity, and location using abstract animations (painimations) and a paintable body image. This study determined the construct validity of painimations and body image measures by testing correlations with validated pain outcomes in adults with sickle cell disease (SCD). Analyses used baseline data from a multisite randomized trial of 359 adults with SCD and chronic pain.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of iltamiocel, an autologous muscle cell therapy, for treating stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women, comparing it to a placebo group.
  • - Results showed no significant difference in the overall reduction of stress incontinence episodes between groups, but iltamiocel was more effective in women with previous SUI surgeries, indicating potential benefits for this specific population.
  • - While the primary endpoint was not achieved, iltamiocel therapy was deemed safe, suggesting further research is needed for women with prior SUI surgery who lack effective treatment options.
