Forty percent of colostrum samples from German women showed neutralizing antibody titers of greater than or equal to 50 to rotavirus (RV) serotypes 1, 3, 4, and 6. Antibody to serotypes 2, 8, and 9 was less prevalent. Titers are, however, too low to indicate an important effect of colostrum on the RV vaccine take rate. On the other hand, about 50% of the cord serum samples showed high neutralizing-antibody titers to serotypes 1, 3, and 4, which could interfere with the take rate of RV vaccines based on these serotypes in very young infants.

In 2020, severe diarrhea occurred in four-month-old fattening pigs from nine farms in Shandong Province, China. Fecal samples were collected from diseased pigs and tested by PCR for the presence of mammalian orthoreovirus (MRV), porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV), porcine rotavirus A (PoRVA), transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), porcine kobuvirus (PKV), and pseudorabies virus (PRV). The viral RNA of MRV and PEDV was detected in the fecal samples.

Piglet diarrhea poses significant economic losses to the pig industry, posing a worldwide challenge that urgently needs to be addressed in pig breeding practices. Porcine rotavirus (PoRV) is an important viral diarrhea pathogen in piglets, with a high incidence rate and a tendency to cause growth retardation. To enhance the sensitivity and specificity of PoRV detection, we sequenced the NSP3 gene of G5 and G9 genotypes of rotavirus A (RVA), enabling simultaneous detection of the two serotypes.

Raw vegetables irrigated with polluted water that may contain enteric viruses can be associated with foodborne viral disease outbreaks. The objective of this study is to investigate the possible transmission of enteric viruses from irrigation water to lettuce. Therefore, we performed a commercial multiplex real-time PCR assay to monitor the occurrence of enteric viruses in irrigation water samples and in raw vegetables that were cultivated at market gardening sites in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Background: Enteric infections are hypothesized to be associated with intussusception in children. A small increase in intussusception following rotavirus vaccination has been seen in some settings. We conducted post-marketing surveillance for intussusception following rotavirus vaccine, Rotavac introduction in India and evaluated association of intussusception with enteric pathogens.

Background: Enteric avian rotavirus (ARV) is the etiological agent of several health problems that pose a global threat to commercial chickens. Therefore, to avoid these widespread epidemics and high mortality rates, only vaccine and strict biosecurity are required.
Method: The present study employs computational techniques to design a unique multi-epitope-based vaccine candidate that successfully activates immune cells against the ARV by combining adjuvant, linker, and B and T-cell epitopes.
