Objective: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are among the most common and serious complications of pregnancy. Persuasive evidence implicaties genetic factors in the genesis of HDP. The aim of the present study was to assess the association between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the human coagulation factor XI (F11) gene and HDP, by conducting a haplotype-based case-control study.

Methods: We chose 3 SNPs (rs925453, rs925451, and rs12500151) in the human F11 gene as genetic markers. We then conducted an association study with 77 HDP patients and 154 age-matched non-HDP subjects.

Results: The frequency of rs925453 genotypes significantly differed between the two groups. The frequency of the T-G-G haplotype was significantly higher in the HDP group than in the non-HDP group (p = 0.0002).

Conclusions: The T allele of rs925453 and the T-G-G haplotype appear to be useful genetic markers of HDP.

Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerulonephritis worldwide with heterogeneous histopathological phenotypes. Although IgAN with membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN)-like features has been reported in children and adults, treatment strategies for this rare IgAN subtype have not been established. Here, we present the case of a 56-year-old man with no history of kidney disease who initially presented with nephrotic syndrome.

The serum uric acid-to-creatinine ratio (UCR) may be a simple method for assessing xanthine oxidase overactivation, which may contribute to an increase in serum uric acid production and oxidative stress. In this study, we investigated the nonlinear association between the UCR and long-term mortality in patients with hypertension. Data were acquired from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database, and a total of 11,346 patients with hypertension were included.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a serious medical condition that causes a failure in the right heart. Two-pore channel 2 (TPC2) is upregulated in PAH, but its roles in PAH remain largely unknown. Our investigation aims at the mechanisms by which TPC2 regulates PAH development.

This study investigated the impact of mild COVID-19 on HRV in groups stratified by time after infection and to compare to a healthy group of the same age without previous virus infection and without need of hospitalization. This is a cross-sectional study. We divided the sample into four groups: control group (CG) (n = 31), group 1 (G1): ≤6 weeks (n = 34), group 2 (G2): 2-6 months (n = 30), group 3 (G3): 7-12 months (n = 35) after infection.

Osteoarthritis (OA) has been the most common arthritis affecting public health all over the world. Previous experimental research reported that increased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, along with decreased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol may be associated with increased ectopic bone formation and possible knee OA, while clinical evidence is absent. This study aimed to investigate the association between blood high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and OA.
