A detailed analysis of molecular structure in three polymorphic forms of 5-methyl-2-[(2-nitrophenyl)amino]-3-thiophenecarbonitrile is made using a combination of multidimensional solid-state NMR (SSNMR) experiments and molecular modeling via electronic structure calculations. These compounds, collectively referred to as ROY because of their red, orange, and yellow colors, share a similar molecular structure with the exception of the dihedral angle between the phenyl and thiophene rings. The ROY materials make it possible to study the influence of nearly a single degree of freedom on the associated NMR spectra. Using the 2D PASS (Antzutkin et al. J. Magn. Reson. A 1995, 115, 7) experiment, spectral editing techniques, and DFT-based calculations of the local fields, an analysis is made of the sensitivity of all carbon and nitrogen sites to changing molecular conformation. Chemical shift and dipolar coupling information obtained from these experiments vary noticeably between forms and are subsequently used to quantitatively determine aspects of molecular structure in these materials, including the coplanar angle between the phenyl and thiophene rings. The influence of motion on the methyl and nitro chemical shifts is also investigated. The accuracy of the information obtained from local field analysis and the model structure calculation demonstrates the capabilities of SSNMR as a quantitative structural method.

Organophosphate pesticides (OPs) are widely used in agricultural fields and can inhibit the activity of human acetylcholinesterase (hAChE) by covalently binding to serine at the enzyme's active site. However, the molecular recognition mechanisms beyond their covalent binding remain unclear. This study employed molecular docking along with molecular dynamics simulations (MD) to investigate four representative OPs, Phosphamidon, Monocrotophos, Dichlorvos, and Trichlorfon, as well as two potential alternatives Magnolol (MAG) and Honokiol (HON), to understand the conformational change of hAChE and its molecular recognition mechanism.

A novel molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) against gatifloxacin based on a hybrid monomer (3-triethoxysilylpropyl methacrylic amide, APTES-MAA) was reported. In this study, the imprinted monolith was synthesized with gatifloxacin as template, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as cross-linker, and APTES-MAA as functional monomer in a mixture of acetonitrile and isooctane as porogen via an optimization based on density functional theory (DFT). The polymers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and mercury porosimetry.

Rice tillering determines grain yield, yet the molecular regulatory network is still limited. In this study, we demonstrated that the transcription factor OsMADS60 promotes the expression of the auxin transporter OsPIN5b to affect auxin distribution and inhibit rice tillering and grain yield. Natural variation was observed in the promoter region of OsMADS60, with its expression level negatively correlated with tiller number and inducible by auxin.

Chiral two-dimensional (2D) hybrid organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite semiconductors have emerged as an exceptional material platform with many design opportunities for spintronic applications. However, a comprehensive understanding of changes to the crystal structure and chiroptical properties upon exposure to atmospheric humidity has not been established. We demonstrate phase degradation to the 1D (MBA)PbI (MBA = methylbenzylammonium) and the hypothetical (MBA)PbI·HO hydrate phases, accompanied by a reduction and disappearance of the chiroptical response.

Within the DSD there is a subgroup of 46,XX testicular DSD (46,XX TDSD), which may be caused by the translocation of the SRY gene, and more rarely - due to other causes (SRY-negative forms). In this report, we present an observation of a patient with SRY-negative 46,XX TDSD, in whom the condition was initially regarded as a virile form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia, then as idiopathic intrauterine virilization in a girl.
