The conditions for the formation of local bumps in the activity of binary attractor neural networks with spatially dependent connectivity are investigated. We show that these formations are observed when asymmetry between the activity during the retrieval and learning is imposed. An analytical approximation for the order parameters is derived. The corresponding phase diagram shows a relatively large and stable region where this effect is observed, although critical storage and information capacities drastically decrease inside that region. We demonstrate that the stability of the network, when starting from the bump formation, is larger than the stability when starting even from the whole pattern. Finally, we show a very good agreement between the analytical results and the simulations performed for different topologies of the network.

The effects of guanidinium hydrochloride (GdmCl) on two intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) are investigated using simulations of the self-organized polymer-IDP (SOP-IDP) model. The impact of GdmCl is taken into account using the molecular transfer model (MTM). We show that due to the dramatic reduction in the stiffness of the highly charged Prothymosin-α (ProTα) with increasing concentration of GdmCl ([GdmCl]), the radius of gyration () decreases sharply until about 1.

Intrinsic and environmental drivers of pairwise cohesion in wild Canis social groups.

Ecology

December 2024

Wildlife Research and Monitoring Section, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Animals within social groups respond to costs and benefits of sociality by adjusting the proportion of time they spend in close proximity to other individuals in the group (cohesion). Variation in cohesion between individuals, in turn, shapes important group-level processes such as subgroup formation and fission-fusion dynamics. Although critical to animal sociality, a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing cohesion remains a gap in our knowledge of cooperative behavior in animals.

The Barremian-aged Wessex Formation of the Isle of Wight, UK, offers a globally significant glimpse into the sauropod dinosaur faunas of the early Cretaceous. These deposits have yielded specimens of several neosauropod lineages, such as rebbachisaurids, titanosauriforms (including some of the earliest titanosaur remains), and possible flagellicaudatans. Here, we report an undescribed sauropod partial hindlimb from the Wessex Formation (NHMUK PV R16500) and analyse its phylogenetic affinities.

New insight on etiology: A chorionic bump with partial mole pregnancy case report from Syria.

J Clin Ultrasound

January 2025

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine, Damascus University, Damascus, Syria.

This case report presents the association of a chorionic bump with a partial mole pregnancy in a 37-year-old G3P2 woman. The differential diagnosis of a partial mole was considered after transvaginal ultrasonography revealed a chorionic bump. Subsequent pathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis.

Unspecific bone uptake (UBU) related to [F]PSMA-1007 PET/CT imaging represents a clinical challenge. We aimed to assess whether a combination of clinical, biochemical, and imaging parameters could predict skeletal metastases in patients with [F]PSMA-1007 bone focal uptake, aiding in result interpretation. We retrospectively analyzed [F]PSMA-1007 PET/CT performed in hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (PCa) patients at 3 tertiary-level cancer centers.
