Hypervalent iodine(III) reagents are readily available, easy to handle, and have a low toxicity and similar reactivities to those of heavy metal reagents, and hence they are used for various oxidative reactions. The oxidative cleavage of alkynes or carbonyl compounds by using bis(trifluoroacetoxy)iodo(III) pentafluorobenzene (C(6)F(5)I(OCOCF(3))(2)) has been reported. Herein, the efficient direct synthesis of N,O-acetal compounds as key intermediates of discorhabdin A, by the oxidative fragmentation reaction of alpha-amino acids or beta-amino alcohols by using C(6)F(5)I(OCOCF(3))(2), is described.

The discovery of a stable organic radical formed under mild, clean, and efficient light-mediated conditions is reported. The structure of the stable acridinium-based radical photoproduct was unambiguously established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, and in solution by EPR, UV/vis, and NMR spectroscopies. The photochemical mechanism of its formation has been elucidated by photophysical experiments coupled with EPR experiments and theoretical investigations.

A TEMPO-mediated β-ketoalkylation of enaminoesters with cyclopropanols under metal-free conditions is herein described. This reaction provides a straightforward and highly efficient route to β-keto alkyl substituted enaminoesters for the first time, which could be rapidly and efficiently converted into synthetically useful 2-alkoxycarbonyl functionalized 1,5-diketones. Moreover, the practicability of this protocol is successfully demonstrated by scale-up experiments and the late-stage functionalization of natural products and pharmaceutically relevant molecules.

T7 RNA polymerase (RNAP) has enabled orthogonal control of gene expression and recombinant protein production across diverse prokaryotic host chassis organisms for decades. However, the absence of 5' methyl guanosine caps on T7 RNAP-derived transcripts has severely limited its utility and widespread adoption in eukaryotic systems. To address this shortcoming, we evolved a fusion enzyme combining T7 RNAP with the single subunit capping enzyme from African swine fever virus using .
