[Endobronchial ultrasound and PET positive mediastinal lymph nodes].

Introduction: In bronchial carcinoma when positron emission tomography with 18-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG-PET) shows increased emission in the mediastinal lymph nodes, confirmation by tissue biopsy is necessary. In this particular situation we have evaluated the use of real time lymph node aspiration under endobronchial ultrasound control.

Methods: Consecutive patients referred for staging and/or diagnosis of PET positive mediastinal nodes in the setting of suspected or confirmed bronchial carcinoma were included. The results of lymph node aspiration, performed under local anaesthesia in out-patients, were collected and if non-diagnostic surgical exploration was performed.

Results: 20 patients were studied between December 2004 and September 2005. The average number of ultrasound guided needle aspirations per patient was 4.8 +/- 1.2. Cytological or histological confirmation of malignancy was obtained by needle biopsy in 12 patients. The 8 negative cases were confirmed by surgical biopsy. In this preliminary series the sensitivity, specificity and negative predictive value of ultrasound guided aspiration of PET positive nodes was 100%.

Conclusion: Endobronchial ultrasound with needle aspiration should be considered a primary method of investigation of PET positive mediastinal lymph nodes.

Objective: Currently, Ga-labeled somatostatin analogs (SSAs) are the most commonly used imaging agents for patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) in clinical practice, demonstrating good results in tumor diagnosis. For applications in peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), targeted drugs should have high tumor uptake and prolonged tumor retention time. To enhance the uptake and retention of tracers in NETs, our goal is to design a Ga-labeled heterodimer for optimizing pharmacokinetics and assess whether this form is more efficacious than its monomeric equivalents.

cuniculi infection in rabbits represents a true challenge in both diagnosis and treatment of the disease. This study aims to describe and analyze all methods of identifying the presence of the microsporidian in a rabbit through antemortem and postmortem methods. The patient manifested clinical signs of vestibular disease and mild renal symptoms with no significant improvement under treatment, which finally led to euthanasia.

Canine coronavirus (CCoV), canine respiratory coronavirus (CRCoV), canine adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2), and canine norovirus (CNV) are important pathogens for canine viral gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases. Especially, co-infections with these viruses exacerbate the damages of diseases. In this study, four pairs of primers and probes were designed to specifically amplify the conserved regions of the CCoV M gene, CRCoV N gene, CAV-2 hexon gene, and CNV RdRp gene.

: This study aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy and prognostic significance of staging laparoscopy (SL) compared to computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) in gastric cancer staging. We evaluated the ability of SL to detect occult peritoneal metastases and influence of SL on survival outcomes across cancer stages and treatment approaches. : In this retrospective cohort study, 95 patients with gastric cancer underwent preoperative assessment using CT, PET-CT, and SL between 2018 and 2024.

Traditional imaging techniques have limited efficacy in detecting occult cervical lymph node (LN) metastases in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET-CT) has demonstrated potential for assessing HNSCC, but the literature on its efficacy for detecting cervical LN metastases is scarce and exhibits varied outcomes, hindering comparisons. To compare the efficacy of CT, MRI, PET-CT, and US for detecting LN metastasis in HNSCC with clinically negative neck lymph nodes.
