Background: Increased burden of socially determined vulnerabilities (SDV), which include nonmedical conditions that contribute to patient health, is associated with incident heart failure (HF). Mediators of this association have not been examined. We aimed to determine if a healthy lifestyle mediates the association between SDV and HF.

Background: Severe metaphyseal comminution and sizable bone defect of the distal femur are high risks of fixation failure. To date, no exact magnitude of comminution and bone loss is determined as an indication for augmentation of fixation construct. The present study aimed to investigate the influence of metaphyseal gap width, working length, and screw distribution on the stability of the fixation construct.

Functional Outcome of Subtrochanteric Femoral Fractures Fixation by Proximal Femoral Locking Compression Plate.

Mymensingh Med J

January 2025

Dr Md Sonaullah, Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Mymensingh Medical College (MMC), Mymensingh, Bangladesh; E-mail:

Subtrochanteric femoral fractures are one of the common fractures encountered in today's Orthopaedic practice. This area consists of mostly cortical bone with high stress generation thus heal slowly which leads implant failure. The inherent instability of this fracture and forces of the muscles with comminuted medial calcar is giving the fracture a tendency to varus collapse.

Article Synopsis
  • * Extramedullary implants have a higher failure rate, while recent studies show that the proximal femoral locking compression plate (PF-LCP) offers better outcomes in terms of healing and fewer complications.
  • * A study conducted at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital assessed 25 patients with closed subtrochanteric fractures, analyzing healing through radiographic evaluations and showing promising results for PF-LCP in promoting fracture union.

Background: The surgical treatment of non-union of long bones are challenging especially when bones are osteoporotic or there is a large bone gap due to repeated surgeries and implant failures. Plate with intramedullary fibula provides a stable construct as fibula acts as a second implant with better anchorage and high pull-out strength. The aim of our study is to present our experience of treating complex non-union of long bones using compression plating (LCP/DCP) in combination with autologous non-vascularized fibular graft (ANVFG).
