Implications of plastic ingestion on the growth and fledging success of shearwaters.

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, University of Tasmania, Hobart, Australia; CSIRO Environment, Hobart, Australia.

Ingestion of plastic can have negative health consequences for wildlife. However, our understanding of the physiological impacts of plastics is limited, often relying on opportunistic sampling. We partnered with Tasmanian Aboriginal seabird harvesters, wildlife rescue clinics, and parks managers, to collect >400 fledgling yula/short-tailed and flesh-footed shearwaters across a spectrum of body conditions.

Migration characteristics and toxic effects of perfluorooctane sulfonate and perfluorobutane sulfonate in tobacco.

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

National Engineering Research Center for Efficient Utilization of Soil and Fertilizer Resources, Key Laboratory of Agricultural Environment in Universities of Shandong, College of Resources and Environment, Shandong Agricultural University, Tai'an 271018, China. Electronic address:

Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and its new substitute, perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS), are increasing in concentration in the environment annually, and their toxicity cannot be ignored. With an increasing amount of PFOS and PFBS entering the environment, especially into farmland soil, it is very likely to pollute tobacco-planting soil. Therefore, we chose tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.

Background: Early intervention is effective for reducing ADHD symptoms and related impairments, yet methods of identifying young children in need of services are lacking. Most early predictors of ADHD previously identified are of limited clinical utility. This study examines several theoretically relevant predictors of ADHD in infancy and toddlerhood and whether assessment at multiple time points improves prediction.

Background: Although agricultural health has gained importance, to date, much of the existing research relies on traditional epidemiological approaches that often face limitations related to sample size, geographic scope, temporal coverage, and the range of health events examined. To address these challenges, a complementary approach involves leveraging and reusing data beyond its original purpose. Administrative health databases (AHDs) are increasingly reused in population-based research and digital public health, especially for populations such as farmers, who face distinct environmental risks.

Background/objectives: Noise remains an under-discussed type of environmental pollutant, which exerts a wide range of adverse health effects, both auditory and non-auditory. Ensuring that the public has ready access to useful health information online about noise exposure is important. In this regard, evaluating the content of public news articles regarding noise pollution is vital.
