The past 20 years have seen an overall decline in survey response rates and an even more pronounced decline in samples of health care professionals. The authors tested the use of a "thank you" or "reminder" postcard as a method by which to stem the tide of declining response rates. The authors conducted a mail and telephone survey of 49,605 registered nurses for the 2000 National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses and sent an extra mailing to a random subsample (n = 4,968). They then compared response rates for both groups. Contrary to prior research, this study found that reminder postcards did not improve response rates or rates of return. There may be several reasons for this finding, including the general familiarity with, and high saliency of, this research project for the nursing community. These results suggest that even widely accepted best practices for survey methods deserve scrutiny when applied to special subpopulations.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of a 13-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine (CRM197/TT) (PCV13i) in infants.
Methods: A total of 1200 infants were randomly assigned to either the experimental PCV13i group or the control PCV13 group in a 1:1 ratio. Each group received a three-dose series of the vaccine at 2, 4, and 6 months of age, followed by a booster dose at 12-15 months.

Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) poses a significant global health threat, especially when it involves the central nervous system (CNS). Tuberculous meningitis (TBM), a severe manifestation of TB, is linked to high mortality rates and long-term neurological complications, further exacerbated by drug resistance and immune evasion mechanisms employed by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Although pulmonary TB remains the primary focus of research, MDR-TBM introduces unique challenges in diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes.

The development of vaccines against RNA viruses has undergone a rapid evolution in recent years, particularly driven by the COVID-19 pandemic. This review examines the key roles that RNA viruses, with their high mutation rates and zoonotic potential, play in fostering vaccine innovation. We also discuss both traditional and modern vaccine platforms and the impact of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, on optimizing immunization strategies.

Background/objectives: Marburg virus (MARV) is the etiological agent of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD), a rare but severe hemorrhagic fever disease with high case fatality rates in humans. Smaller outbreaks have frequently been reported in countries in Africa over the last few years, and confirmed human cases outside Africa are, so far, exclusively imported by returning travelers. Over the previous years, MARV has also spread to non-endemic African countries, demonstrating its potential to cause epidemics.

In response to the current situation of backward automation levels, heavy labor intensities, and high accident rates in the underground coal mine auxiliary transportation system, the mining trackless auxiliary transportation robot (MTATBOT) is presented in this paper. The MTATBOT is specially designed for long-range, space-constrained, and explosion-proof underground coal mine environments. With an onboard perception and autopilot system, the MTATBOT can perform automated and unmanned subterranean material transportation.
