Influence of different doses of phenol on some biological and morphological indices of rat blood was studied. It has been established that glucose and total protein concentration decreased, but beta-lipoprotein concentration increased in response to intraperitoneal injection of xenobiotic. The morphological study of structural indices of blood formed elements has demonstrated that intensively of the defensive response of blood formed elements was phenol dose-dependent. It has been established that major concentration of above-mentioned xenobiotic generate destruction of blood formed elements.

Antiparasitic activity of the iron-containing milk protein lactoferrin and its potential derivatives against human intestinal and blood parasites.

Front Parasitol

February 2024

Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science, College of Pharmacy, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, United States.

An iron-containing milk protein named lactoferrin (Lf) has demonstrated antiparasitic and immunomodulatory properties against a variety of human parasites. This protein has shown its capability to bind and transport iron molecules in the vicinity of the host-pathogen environment. The ability of parasites to sequester the iron molecule and to increase their pathogenicity and survival depends on the availability of iron sources.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare and potentially fatal condition characterized by progressive increases in blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. Oral selexipag, approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2015 for the treatment of PAH, targets prostacyclin receptors on pulmonary arterial vascular smooth muscle and endothelial cells to improve blood flow through the lungs and reduce pulmonary vascular resistance. Oral selexipag is effective, but may be discontinued due to factors like side effects, emergency conditions, or inability to take oral medication, potentially leading to severe adverse events, such as rebound pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure.

The largest risk factor for dementia is age. Heterochronic blood exchange studies have uncovered age-related blood factors that demonstrate 'pro-aging' or 'pro-youthful' effects on the mouse brain. The clinical relevance and combined effects of these factors for humans is unclear.

December 2024

Department of Animal Production and Technology, Faculty of Animal Science, Institut Pertanian Bogor, Bogor, Indonesia.

Previous studies of IIA-1A5 have shown its potential as a probiotic in modulating gut microbiota and providing health benefits; however, its effects during pregnancy remain underexplored. The aim of this study was to assess the safety of fermented milk enriched with IIA-IA5 in pregnant mice. An experimental study was conducted at Universitas Andalas, Padang, Indonesia.
