Using low temperature EPR spectroscopy, signals of iron-sulfur centers with g-factors of 2.02 and 1.94 were detected in the respiratory chain of St. aureus membranes. According to their relaxation parameters and redox properties, these iron-sulfur centers are similar to iron-sulfur centers S-1 and S-3 corresponding to succinate dehydrogenases of mitochondria and bacterial membranes.

Arsenic in the environment, such as sodium arsenic (NaAsO), is a frequently occurring hazard that has been linked to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Our prior research established the involvement of ferroptosis in arsenic-induced NASH, but the precise underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here, we found that exposure to NaAsO had a suppressive effect on the expression of CDGSH iron-sulfur domain-containing protein 2 (CISD2) at the protein and gene levels, and overexpression of CISD2 inhibited NaAsO-induced ferroptosis and NASH.

The FeO nanoparticle synthesized by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans have a broad practical value, while the low yield limits their commercial application. Herein, we employed a C heavy-ion beam to induce mutagenesis of A. ferrooxidans BYM and successfully screened a mutant BYMT-200 with a 1.

Halorhodospira (Hlr.) halophila strain BN9622 is an extremely halophilic and alkaliphilic purple phototrophic bacterium and has been widely used as a model for exploring the osmoadaptive and photosynthetic strategies employed by phototrophic extreme halophiles that enable them to thrive in hypersaline environments. Here we present the cryo-EM structures of (1) a unique native Hlr.

Copper homeostasis and pregnancy complications: a comprehensive review.

Department of Obstetrics, Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Pregnancy complications pose challenges for both pregnant women and obstetricians globally, with the pathogenesis of many remaining poorly understood. Recently coined as a mode of cell death, cuproptosis has been proposed but remains largely unexplored. This process involves copper overload, resulting in the accumulation of fatty acylated proteins and subsequent loss of iron-sulfur cluster proteins.

Ferredoxin 2 Is Critical for Tumor Suppression and Lipid Homeostasis but Dispensable for Embryonic Development.

Ferredoxin 1 and 2 (FDX1/2) constitute an evolutionarily conserved FDX family of iron-sulfur cluster-containing proteins. FDX1/2 are cognate substrates of ferredoxin reductase and serve as conduits for electron transfer from NADPH to a set of proteins involved in biogenesis of corticosteroids, hemes, iron-sulfur cluster, and lipoylated proteins. Recently, we showed that Fdx1 is essential for embryonic development and lipid homeostasis.
